"The place meets minimal expectations. Primarily the room and bed were clean, which is what I needed most. The rest of the building is old (probably built in the '70's) so it shows its age in places. The hallway carpeting on the 2nd floor was pretty stained-up; could use a good shampooing. Not sure how other floors looked. Inside the room there were chips in the bathtub finish and on the floor tile, just due to being old but still usable. Ottoman had shoe stains on it. Otherwise, the room was clean so that's most important. The thing that bothered me most is the room's flooring was fake hardwood. Wasn't most pleasant to step on a cold floor in the morning. Plus I'm sure that fake hardwood doesn't help muffle noises from other rooms. No other guests were obnoxiously loud but I did wake up to my neighbor getting up/scuffling around his-or-her room at 4AM. I'm sure that noise would've been significantly less IF our rooms had carpet in them. But the fake hardwood was clean and dust-free so that's most important! Breakfast was good - scrambled eggs, sausage, muffins, cereals (I had raisin bran), apples, toast, bagles, orange/apple juice dispenser, lemon water, coffee...enough choices to get your day started. The staff were all friendly and helpful. I only contacted them for check-in, later when I couldn't remember my room number, another time when my room card quit working, and check-out; all positive interactions. In all, not the Four Seasons, but worth crashing at for a weekend."

"First of all, the staff were unfailingly friendly throughout our stay. And the food at dinner and breakfast was mostly good. That's why 4 stars instead of 3. The location is delightful - we had a partial river/partial parking lot view (glorious sunrise) - and is seconds from the riverfront walk and pretty 'downtown' Clayton. The rooms were spacious and the beds were comfortable. However... the floors in the room get mopped with water that doesn't get changed enough - the room was musty, and our shoes, slippers, and feet were sticking to the floor the whole weekend. When we had to move a bedside table to get at a functioning outlet, there was dust and dirt and bits of old food underneath (also under the beds). The bathroom was large, chilly, and echo-y - even the toilet paper was a bit disappointing (fragile single layer stuff). There are refrigerators in the room but no tea/coffee making machines. The hotel goes to a lot of trouble to put coffee, hot water, tea bags, hot chocolate packets, etc. out in the elevator lobbies on each floor every morning, but it was always (even at 6:30 am) weak and lukewarm. The bottom line is that this hotel wants to appear fancier than it is. It feels like - perhaps because of the economic climate - they've had to cut some corners. Set your expectations accordingly."
