About this property

Heaven's Door · Boulders, Hot Tub, 2 Cowboy Tubs

  • Summary:

Heaven's Door is a modern, music-inspired retreat on five private acres near Pioneertown, where a backyard full of boulders becomes your own place to explore. Spend the day scrambling among the rocks, cooling off in seasonal cowboy tubs, or soaking in the hot tub. As evening settles in, gather around the outdoor fire or put on a favorite record. With bold architecture, playful interiors, and a separate casita for larger groups, this is desert living with a little rock 'n' roll.

    The Space:

Behind its striking black-and-concrete facade, Heaven's Door reveals a home with a personality all its own. Soaring ceilings, expansive glass doors, polished concrete floors, and eclectic artwork give the interiors a modern edge, while richly textured furnishings and vintage-inspired rugs make the spaces feel relaxed and lived-in. Music is woven into the home's character, from guitars displayed on the walls to a collection of vinyl waiting to be played.

The real adventure begins just outside. Massive boulders rise behind the house, creating a natural playground for exploring the five-acre property. Back at the house, the open-air gathering spaces invite you to spend as much time outside as in, whether you're enjoying a long dinner, relaxing beside the fire, or slipping into the hot tub after a day on the rocks.

    -Outdoor Amenities-

At Heaven's Door, the landscape is an experience in itself. Five acres of rocky desert terrain invite you to venture beyond the patio and explore the boulders that rise around the property. Take a walk among the rock formations, find a favorite lookout, or simply enjoy the remarkable scenery from the comfort of the house.

The outdoor living area is designed for spending time together. A dramatic concrete fire feature anchors the patio, with built-in seating, comfortable outdoor furniture, and sweeping views of the surrounding hills. Light the propane grill, bring dinner to the outdoor dining table, and settle in as the landscape changes color.

For a slower afternoon, choose between the hot tub and two side-by-side cowboy tubs, ideal for cooling off during warmer weather. The cowboy tubs are seasonal and unavailable from November through March. There's also a distinctive shark-cage outdoor shower for rinsing off after your adventures.

The property retains its natural desert character, and the grounds are not fully fenced.

    -Living Area-

The living room reflects the home's creative spirit. A generous charcoal sectional anchors the space beneath an eclectic gallery of guitars, music photography, and colorful artwork. Patterned textiles and sculptural furniture add warmth and personality without taking away from the clean architectural lines.

This is a room made for putting on a record and staying awhile. Browse the vinyl collection, enjoy music through the sound system, gather for board games, or settle in for a movie on the TV. Large windows and glass doors keep the surrounding landscape in view, giving the room an easy connection to the outdoors.

For guests balancing a little work with their getaway, there's a dedicated workspace, Wi-Fi, and an Ethernet connection. Please note that there is no cellular coverage at the property, so download directions before arriving.

    -Kitchen and Dining-

The kitchen keeps things practical and social, with a marble island and barstools where guests can gather while meals come together. A stainless steel gas stove, oven, dishwasher, microwave, blender, kettle, and coffee maker provide the essentials for everything from quick breakfasts to leisurely dinners.

A round marble dining table offers an inviting place to sit down together, while the nearby outdoor dining area and propane grill make it easy to take meals outside when the weather is right.

Whether you're preparing a meal before heading to a show at nearby Pappy & Harriet's or staying in for an evening with friends, the kitchen and dining spaces make gathering feel effortless.

    -Bedrooms and Bathrooms-

Heaven's Door offers three bedrooms and three ensuite bathrooms, with two bedrooms in the main house and a third in a casita with its own entrance. The arrangement works particularly well for couples traveling together or families who appreciate having their own spaces.

Primary Bedroom: Located in the main house, the primary bedroom features a king bed, understated modern furnishings, and a private ensuite bathroom.

Second Bedroom: Also in the main house, this bedroom offers a queen bed and its own ensuite bathroom, providing a comfortable retreat away from the main gathering areas.

Private Casita: Available for groups of five or more, the casita adds a third bedroom with a king bed, private ensuite bathroom, and its own entrance. A sliding glass door opens toward the desert, giving guests a little extra independence while remaining connected to the rest of the group.

Two of the home's bathrooms feature freestanding soaking tubs, including one beside a large window overlooking the rocky landscape. They're wonderful places for a long, quiet soak after a day of exploring.

The property accommodates a maximum of eight guests but has three beds, sleeping six guests in beds. Groups of seven or eight should bring their own air mattress for the additional guests.

For families traveling with young children, a crib, travel crib, and high chair are available.

    -Surrounding Area-

Pappy and Harriet's and Mane Street in Pioneertown are close enough for an early dinner and a late show. Old Town Yucca Valley and La Copine in Flamingo Heights are an easy drive, and downtown Joshua Tree, the Integratron and the West Entrance to Joshua Tree National Park are all within reach. Ride shares and taxis are available to get you to and from Pappy and Harriet's, and we strongly recommend reserving dinner there in advance.

    Guest Access:

The entire house and property are yours to enjoy! Please note that a few supply closets stay locked to store rental supplies.

For groups of 1 to 4, you will have the main house with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Groups of 5 to 8 also have the casita, with an additional bedroom and bathroom.

Beautiful home! The amenities were right on, the multiple spaces for relaxing or entertaining were fantastic. This is a very well thought out property. Excellent for stargazing. Unfortunately the jacuzzi would not heat beyond 76 so we were unable to enjoy as we had planned. It was a big must on the list when looking for a vacation rental, this was the only disappointment. The location to Pioneertown is ideal and we enjoyed our stay!

Magical desert spot

My stay at this desert property was nothing short of magical. This property was amazing! The scenery was stunning we got vibrant sunrises and sunsets and the night sky was incredible too! The property itself was cozy, well maintained and had all of the comforts of home. If you are looking for a spot to unwind and reconnect with nature, this desert gem is the perfect spot. Plus, it’s an easy walk to Mane st! We will be back for sure!

Perfect Stay!

We booked a last-minute trip to the desert with our adult kids and had a fantastic stay at this property. Booking and check-in were super easy; we promptly received all the property information. This house has everything you'll need to make your stay comfortable: a well-equipped kitchen, spacious bedrooms, each with its bathroom, and well-appointed common areas. The funky rock n roll inspired decor gives it a unique vibe that is perfect for the desert setting. The house was clean, and many amenities were provided; we immensely enjoyed our stay! Our only wish is that we could've stayed another night!

Not your grandfather's house.

The property is high on the edge of the valley, set against the cliffs and built to fit into the scenery. The single story post modern design is a perfect fit for the environment. Windowed walls ensure staggering views all day and night with one side facing the sunrise and the other sunset and the milky way lighting the night sky to the point I barely needed outdoor lighting. The layout was very efficient with a massive kitchen/living room space that really worked for us. My 15yo granddaughter stayed in the attached Casitis which was pretty much self contained and gave both her and us the privacy needed but providing a common space to cook and hang out. Good times indeed and we're already planning to come back next year.

A Perfect Desert Oasis

First time visiting Joshua Tree for a show at Pioneertown. This house in Joshua Tree exceeded all of our expectations! From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the serene desert views and the modern, music-themed design of the home. Every detail has been thoughtfully curated to create a relaxing and luxurious experience. The layout of the house is spacious. The kitchen is fully stocked. The outdoor spaces are where this home really shines—sitting by the fire under the stars was pure magic, and the hot tub was the perfect way to unwind. The location couldn't be better—3 minutes from Pioneertown, yet tucked away in a peaceful and quiet area that felt completely private. The host was incredibly responsive and provided great recommendations for local restaurants and activities. Overall, this house was the ideal retreat for our desert getaway, and we can't wait to return. If you're looking for a perfect blend of comfort, style, and nature, this is the place for you!

NOT THE HEAVENLY ESCAPE WE HOPED FOR

We recently stayed at Heaven’s Door in Joshua Tree, and unfortunately, our experience was FAR from heavenly. While we were excited to spend some time relaxing in this “desert getaway”, we were met with several disappointments that overshadowed our stay.Firstly, we were promised blackout shades prior to our arrival, but there were none in the property. Additionally, the hot tub turned out to be non-functional, which was another significant letdown, as we had hoped to unwind and enjoy some time in it.There were plumbing issues during our stay with the master bedroom having no hot water (in either the sink or the shower) which was incredibly inconvenient and disappointing. The photos of the property exaggerates how the home actually feels in person. We wanted to love this place, but instead, we were left feeling underwhelmed and frustrated. Given the range of options available in the same area, we cannot recommend Heaven’s Door to others
