This island is a home to "pawikan" or universally known as tortoise. They come here to lay eggs and they come back after several weeks for their hatchlings. Ironically, the term "panikian" is not in any way associated with "pawikan." The former refers to bats. The islet on the picture is not the island itself, but it is within the bounds of Panikian Island. Not too many people come here because the government is trying to allow tortoises to lay their eggs without human intervention. In line with that, there are "bantay-dagat" authorities assigned here to guard the vicinity from intruders and from people who illegally catch tortoises. It's truly a home away from home. I, together with other outdoor enthusiasts, went to an island in the Southern Mindanao called Panikian Island where "pawikans" lay their eggs. I have witnessed such extraordinary beauty of nature and felt really relieved that I was in there, right at that very moment. I traveled with nice people. Everything turned out great. However, it's not an easy-access kind of island. If you want to come here, you have to negotiate with fishermen very well. It is even better if you travel in group so expenses are shared. It'd be costly for solo travellers. We traveled from the port to the island for 45 minutes by mini boat or locally known as "banca." The best part of this journey was the fresh seafoods sold to us cheap.

My only issue is no elevators. I have mobility problems . I have prepaid my reservation and after a long trip, had no interest to argue, etc
