Places to visit
If you are staying in Portland for a few days be sure to take the opportunity to explore the region.
Cape Bridgewater is great for Whale watching or spotting seals and is only a short drive West of Portland along the coast.
Nelson is located approx 70kms West on the border of South Australia and Victoria and is a tiny seaside town located at the mouth of the Glenelg River. Scenic river cruises and boat / canoe hire available.
Mount Gambier, South Australia is located 105kms West and is the largest regional city in South Australia. It offers plenty of scenic attractions, shopping and restaurants. Be sure to visit the Blue Lake, especially between November - February when it is a spectacular blue. Blue Lake Tours run daily to the water surface. The Umpherston sinkhole is a cave garden which is also lit up and home to possums at night. The Cave gardens in the city centre are also worth a visit and if you want to venture underground, visit Engelbrecht Cave for a tour. If you have children, be sure to visit the Valley Lakes playground area.
