"The hotel had been abandoned. We managed to check-in but there have been no staff onsite since. A local has told us that the Indian company that owns the hotel has not paid the local staff wages and they have been forced to leave. The hotel is filthy, there is literally no staff anywhere to be seen. "

"Personale estremamente gentile e disponibile, siamo rimaste davvero colpite per la loro cura verso il cliente a qualunque ora del giorno e della notte. Colazione molto variegata e buonissima. Per quanto riguarda l alloggio avevamo il primo bungalow vista mare, molto bello come da foto. Non c è da aspettarsi una cura della struttura però per il prezzo pagato assolutamente valido! "Booked this hotel through Expedia prior to my trip, when I landed in Colombo I received a text message from a French (+33) number saying that my booking at The Coconut would be cancelled, and that the prices I had booked were no longer valid! My only choices were to cancel the booking or pay the "new prices" which were 3x higher!
I ended up saying I didn't want the booking and found other accommodations. I actually went to the hotel during my trip where the front desk person was frustrated...

"We stayed here when it was low season. Not many restaurants open and very few shops. Since it was Monsoon it was mosqitios everywhere. The Hotel was Nice and Will be great when finished. Staff was really Nice and helpful. "
