Nature Lover's Cottage Retreat On The Black River With Private Dock.

This small clean and newly renovated cottage on a 20 acre property is the perfect option for small groups or families who are looking for basic accommodations that will fit in a modest budget to use as a home base for exploring The County. Located near the Black River Cheese Factory, it is is a 10 minute drive to Picton, Base 31 and Waupoos. Sandbanks Provincial Park and Long Point Bird Observatory are a 20-30 minute drive. This exceptional property is on the Black River. You can paddle, canoe from the private dock and be on Lake Ontario within 15-30 minutes. The property is bounded by forests and ravines with open meadows. It registered as a Provincial area of Natural and Scientific interest due to the wetlands habitat and unique glacial history.
This property includes a small hobby farm that is managed by the owner who occupies the other cottage. The farm is based on a Forest Garden model where crops are integrated with natural plantings. Chickens and small livestock are part of the farm operation. As long as the hens are happy, you can have fresh eggs. You can also sample seasonal produce from the vegetable and herb garden.
The cottage is at the end of a 1/2 km, private driveway, so it is very quiet.
At night you can watch the fireflies while you roast marshmallows at the fire pit by the dock.
if you are a paddler, this is a good location for canoeing and kayaking. You can launch right from the dock and either head into Lake Ontario or go upstream toward Milford.
For the nature lover, this property is teaming with flora and fauna. The owners are actively returning part of the property to native forest and meadow species.

The cottage is small (450 sq. ft.), so this is more suitable for individuals or groups who want to get out and explore. Alternatively, you could set up a tent in any number of spots on the property and use the cottage as a convenient cooking and bath facility.

The cottage has a modest kitchen with a sink, refrigerator, stove/ oven. The kitchen is equipped with a full range of dishes, pots pans utensils.
The newly renovated bath is a three piece with combined shower/bath
There are two bedrooms one with bunk beds and one with a double bed
The living area is equipped with a new couch that pulls out to a double bed.
The deck overlooks the view onto the Black River and includes a barbecue and patio furniture.
Linens and towels are provided.
Satellite TV provided.
Bicycle storage is available.
Use of a day pass to Sandbanks Provincial Park is included.

Just what we were looking for.
We were looking for a nice quiet away from it all location and we found this the perfect place for us. The cottage is small but plenty big enough for the two of us with a useful screened outdoor space. The kitchen is equipped with everything you could need and the hosts were so lovely, as were the 3 dogs. We would definitely book again the next time we are in Canada.

A peaceful spot to relax
We very much enjoyed an early season long weekend here. A combination anniversary / Eclipse viewing. Paddling the Black River was super with lots of wildlife sightings. The dogs were nice to have around and the Hosts were very congenial. We would definitely stay here again.

Great Cottage on a Unique Property
This was our first time here and we were not disappointed in any way. The cottage was cozy, clean, well-kept, and thoughtfully stocked and decorated. The property was beautiful with many places to relax and explore. The dogs were friendly and fun to play with and seeing and hearing other animals made the experience unique. The property owners were always helpful if needed. We would definitely come back again and recommend it as a great place to stay in PEC.

Great relaxing stay on the farm.
We had a great stay at Robin and Catherine's cabin. It is a small and rustic cabin, but the setting is amazing. The large veranda is a very nice place to enjoy meals and adds quite a bit to the living space. Our daughter loved seeing all the animals and playing with the dogs. Robin and Catherine were very generous of their time and even shared some fresh products of their farm. Great spot to enjoy all that the county has to offer!

County Country Charm
A wonderful rustic retreat with the charm of farm country in the county. Katherine & Robyn were great hosts. Enjoyed the evenings in the enclosed porch and the abundance of beautiful trees on the property. Great dogs - especially Peg, a little sweetheart. Kitchen equipped with all the tools you may need (altho the tiny coffee pot was a challenge if not aligned just perfect!) Fresh eggs from the farm - we would definitely book the property again. Thank you!
