The full kitchen was delightful. Really enjoyed the full size shower. Unfortunately the northern lights didn’t pay us a visit during our stay but the location views were incredible. Very thankful to stay in such a beautiful place.
Absolutely stunninf views and amazing experince. We were able to wall arpund and explore even getting to see a water fall. Overall outstanding. Would return !
So great!!!!! Was in the perfect location for the first part of our trip. The cabin was amazing and had everything we needed. Thank you so much Afternoon cottages and look forward to hopefully making it back in the near future
Cute, cozy cottage located in rural Iceland. Beautiful scenery around the cottage including a small waterfall nearby. Would have been excellent spot to view northern lights, unfortunately the weather didn’t work out for us. Would definitely recommend to others!
My husband and I are frequent travelers and often use VRBO and have for more than 10 years.
This is one of the best properties we have ever stayed at: super clean, comfortable beds/bedding, kitchenette met needs perfectly-we cooked breakfast and two dinners, temperature controls were easy.
The views were great and there’s even a small, lovely waterfall near by!
Host was outstanding with communication.
We absolutely loved the cottage and wished we could have stayed more than one night. We stayed our last night in Iceland in this modern cottage that had everything we needed! The best part was the amazing Norther Light show we were able to see from the porch. Would recommend this place to anyone who loves to stay off the beaten path and enjoy the beauty of Iceland’s natural landscape!!!
This property is beautiful! It has everything you need for a short stay with a comfortable bed, clean space, and kitchen utensils. It's in a very remote location (short portion of the road there is gravel) which would be ideal for viewing the Northern Lights. Unfortunately it was cloudy while we were there, but if you had a clear night you would certainly have a beautiful view. The nearest gas station/restaurants are 30 minutes away in Hella. Definitely recommend for a quiet and beautiful place to stay!
We have been guests at the Afternoon Cottages twice. We stayed in #4 the first time and #5 the second time. They are mirror images of each other. Everything was clean and the location is perfect for seeing the Aurora as long as the sky is clear. Communication with the property manager was easy and effortless and on our first stay we even extended it by a day. I highly recommend the Afternoon Cottages.
We were absolutely taken back on how great this place was. It was the perfect size and we got to see the Northern Lights, which was amazing. The bed was comfy and the tv was a night touch. Our only complaint is when you search the location on VRBO, the "ping" for it shows it quite a bit closer to Hella than what it really is. The road was very rough and it took us about 30 minutes to get there from Hella. Overall the stay was fantastic though!
Big open skies, quiet and private among the natural ruggedness of Iceland. Inside we were greeted with a big comfortable bed with large windows to admire the beauty outside. The unit we stayed in had a waterfall in the distance. The kitchenette had all we needed (coffee and tea) and there was plenty of hot water. It was quite an adventure to get to the housette: 4 miles of gravel road but the payoff was worth it. 4x4 recommended (just in case).
The little house was well equipped and perfect if you could pick it up and put it closer to things to do. We drove from Selfloss to stay over and headed to the Geyser/Gullfloss waterfall in the am.. it was so far away!! Took us over 1.5hrs back tracking towards Selfoss… if I had known the landscape, I would stay in Selfoss instead.. the little house was amazing. The bed was comfortable. Great shower. Little kitchen. Tv n wifi but in the middle of no where!!!

Great house North of Hella
The house is amazing and beautiful! Priced right for the location, about 26 mins away from Hella this small house comes with everything you need including a spectacular view and the freshest of air. The surrounding areas are majestic and so are the mountains in the back. You can see a small waterfall and hear the river. Each house has individual parking and it's quiet and clean. One thing missing in the description was the road to access the property which is under construction and if have a low car can destroy it. This was a major issue. If you have a truck or suv high off the ground you are fine, otherwise this is a problem for about 18 minutes straight. The only negative aspect was communication with our host. We pointed out that all towels were very moldy smelling and we got the equivalent response to "understood" but nothing else. We traveled out of backpacks so we didn't bring our own body towels, so far that has never been an issue. We also brought up how the description in VRBO did not include that a road was not built and renters should beware. The response was also dismissive.
My cottage was exactly as advertised and was beautiful, comfy, and a wonderful place to stay! There’s nothing Elvar can really do about this, but it’s important for folks to be aware that the road to the property switched from paved, to gravel, and then back to paved, and then back to gravel for the last couple of kilometers! :) keep that in mind when driving there.
The kitchen was well equipped, but it’s a small kitchen of course so be aware and don’t bring fine dining cuisine to cook! It would be nice to have a list of items that one can expect in the kitchen, I think there’s a few items on the listing, but a full list would be nice. It would have helped with my food shopping plans!
Elvar and anyone else working on the social media and website presences of this property are top notch! The check in “booklet” on the website was wonderful! Additionally, communication was a breeze, and they were prompt at answering questions and addressing concerns- both before I arrived and while I was staying at the property. I would highly recommend this as a place to stay. Additionally, I was able to see the Northern Lights on my last night there! While Elvar can’t control whether the lights are visible, I can confirm this property is great for chasing the lights :) Bed was comfy, and I appreciated being able to use Icelandic Netflix- I got to see shows I wouldn’t normally see!
Everything was as expected, except for availability of bathroom amenities. For this price, is it unreasonable to provide shampoo/conditioner? Otherwise was great
We spent half our time in Reykjavik and wanted to spend half our time out of the city. This place was perfect. Close enough, convenient, and had all the amenities we could want for being more rural. Please note, there is about a 4 mile stretch of gravel road to reach this location but it is well maintained and we never had an issue. This place was great for visiting places in the south / south east of Iceland.
This was an awesome cottage. Very cozy, very clean, easy check in and out. Host checked on us immediately to make sure we were good. Very comfortable bed! The only thing... the black out blinds are not block out. Def bring your eye masks. We had a 4x4 car, the gravel roads were tricky. Just have to be careful. We loved Iceland!!! Explored and did a lot of hiking! Loved it!
Had a great time here! Cooked dinner in the kitchen while gazing at the incredible view. Dirt road to get to the place was well maintained and easy to drive with a 2wd. Would definitely stay again!
Had an amazing experience in this secluded space. The views were beautiful and if there wasn’t poor weather, we would have been in prime location for seeing the Northern Lights. The room was clean, organized, and check in/out was simple and fast.
