"It is certainly "off the beaten path", but well worth a visit. While there is plenty to do at the Heydalur site itself, we used it as a base for day trips to other parts of the area. "There is a lot of renovation going on at Reykjanes, but mostly that's on the exterior and doesn't affect the interior or your comfort in anyway. Don't let the exterior view of the building put you off. The place has an interesting history and they're building for the future. The small peninsula on which the hotel is located is interesting in itself with a salt factory, "hot beach", and of course the large hot pool. The setting and the views are pure Westfjords. "This hostel lured us in with a cheap price and then tried to charge us for basic amenties. 2000 kr for a pillow and sheets? You gotta be kidding me. I ended up using the bed skirt as a sheet because I refused to pay. Everything else about the place was decent and it was clean although I didn't see another guest the whole time which was a bit off-putting. Pool looked nice if you want to pay for the showers."

"Jon was very accommodating. We are loud annoying Americans and he graciously granted every request. The building is older and the location is remote, so it's more charming and interesting than sleek and luxurious. The pool is an incredible experience. "

The staff could not be better - personable, knowledgable and willing to accomodate special requests. We had dinner there every night and it was delicious - from freshly caught trout to Stella's delicious stuffed chicken breasts. "
