Charming house at foot of the acropolis in Archangelos, Rhodes

This little brown stone house, available year round, with reduced rate off-season, is perfect for a couple, or individual (see pictures, could accomodate small children too). If you want a real Greek town that is not a tourist town, but only a fifteen minute drive from popular Lindos, and only a five minute drive to both Stegna beach and Tsampika beach, this place is ideal. The town of Archangelos has well-stocked supermarkets and amazing fruit and vegetables stores, for food, and specialty stores for computers and phones, and other services, car rental and tour agency, and full medical services, pharmacies, and restaurants and gyro and souvlaki places, within a short walking distance of the house, which sits on the side of the hill next to the acropolis/castle, overlooking the town. The neighborhood is quiet and the house is tucked in a private corner under grapevines and nestled in a terraced garden. The castle ruins/acropolis is steps away, and contains the small church of Saint George and has a stunning view of sea, mountains and town, and is generally deserted, no tourists. (There are no gates or admissions fees, just walk right in any time of day or night and enjoy sunrise, sunset, moonrise, etc.) Also within a few steps are several lovely churches, some Byzantine, with lovely frescos, and the main parish church of Archangel Michael is also steps away. Monastery Tsampika is a five minute drive or just under half an hour walk. At Stegna beach are several topnotch tavernas with traditional seafood and other Greek fare. The location of the village on the East coast halfway down the island is convenient for sightseeing by car or bus all around our lovely island. The house has WIFI and AC, and for winter stays, heat and a beautiful stone fireplace.

Love embracing the culture away from the tourist traps. You don't really need a car. You can hire a taxi to get there and take the bus the rest of the time. Buses are reasonable only 3.30 euro from the town into the tourist cities. No need to look for parking in Rhodes or Lindos with the bus system. Bus station is maybe a 5- 8 minute walk. I will probably not rent a car next time. Rustic and what the locals live in. Loved the private patio. My daughter stayed up nights with the lights on reading on the patio. The beaches are not crowed and loungers, shade umbrellas are affordable. You do have to be a little agile to take the steps up to the cottage. I'm no spring chicken and made it up and down easily. Thru the back garden gate is the castle. An easy walk to the castle and the church within. Stella the owner will bend over backwards to provide anything you are missing or require. Lots of information on local events or sites that you might not know are happening. Really they were a knock or email away. They even were kind enough to present us with a lovely going away gift. This was probably one of the best places I have stayed in for privacy and location.

Secluded & Restful
This property is traditional & rustic with a lovely garden attached. It is quiet and secluded, but with the hosts and their translator easily reachable by phone/text. The town of Archangelos is quaint with a decent grocery, coffee shop & mix of authentic Greek restaurants. Having your own car is preferable to make the trip to Rhodes & the surrounding sites more easily accessible. Late September or October would be the ideal times & climate to fully enjoy the Greek experience. The hosts & neighbors are incredibly kind and welcoming. If you are looking for a restful spot to relax & enjoy a glass of wine under a starry sky, then this traditional Greek cottage is for you!

Great Holiday on Rhodes
We had a great holiday on Rhodes. Archangelos is a very good place to stay; it is an ordinary Greek town with almost no tourists and no so-called tourist attractions but it does have plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants. Stegna beach is only a 10 minute drive from the house and it is one of the quietest and prettiest beaches that we found. The old town of Rhodes is only about 40 minutes away by car. The house is small but very comfortable for two and the garden is even better than the website photos suggest. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

An authentic Greek experience
The property itself was a lovely little bungalow. Quite small, but comfortable and with all the amenities you could need, including a large outdoor seating area. The small size isn’t an issue, because if you’re visiting Rhodes, you’re not going to want to stay in. That said, we did spend one day in just to recharge a bit from our adventures, and we were perfectly comfortable. It’s basically a living room/bedroom, a kitchen and a bathroom, but the layout is done smartly so that it makes for a great space to relax. As for Archangelos, it doesn’t look like much as first glance. Tiny buildings crammed together along the tiniest streets and up winding hills, with quite a few buildings long abandoned. It doesn’t look like the Greek tourist destinations that you see on TV. And that’s because it’s not. It’s so much better. Archangelos is one of the most traditional villages in all of Greece. You’re not going to get an Americanized experience; in Archangelos, you can experience Greece as the Greeks do. From the apartment, yiu can walk down to the main through street of the village for market shopping, coffee, local bakeries or your choice of fantastic restaurants. So many restaurants. You can also walk up the hill to the Acropolis. And essentially everyone speaks English. Communication is no problem at all. Then, just a short drive out of the village is Stegna Beach… which is utterly gorgeous, with crystal-clear water. Literally a 10 minute drive. There, things are a bit more touristy, but still much better than going to Mykanos or another, more common Greek destination. All-told, our experience on Rhodes, in Archangelos, and in this apartment could not have been any better. There no place in Greece we’d rather visit.

Sweet home for our holidays!
We enjoyed the residence. It is small but you find verything you need, even a washing machine. The friendly and helpful proberty Manager and the lovely owner of the house made our days to spezial holidays. It is a good adress to make trips all over Rhodos. The village ist perfekt to get to know the life of the people, there are only some tourists. We rent a car. We need it, to go to the near beautiful Stegna beach. A spezial place! With friendly greetings to the owners, Doris

A truly Greek experience
This was a very special holiday for us returning to Rhodes once again - truly it is our island of love. We stayed in Kalathos and Chariki (twice) previously, our first visit to Kalathos was 31 years ago. Strangely we had never been to Archangelos or Stegna before and what a surprise. Hidden gems. Archangelos is not on the main tourist trail and so retains its Greek feel. This little house is on the edge of the town nestled behind the owners property. It is just splendid, compact and bijou, with everything needed for a relaxing break, including an air conditioning unit for those rather hot days and nights. I felt as if I were at home enjoying yoghurt, peaches and honey for breakfast outside under the vine. We are lucky enough these days to be able to afford a car and to eat out lunchtimes and evening. Archangelos is not a culinary centre it is a 'fast food' town but Stegna has some very good restaurants Maria's Taverna became our firm favourite, home cooked food at a very reasonable price. Konstantins in Kalathos is also very good, a bit of a drive but worth it is you fancy something a little more refined. We did a number of lunches and a couple of evening meals there.

Erholsamer Urlaub
