I chose the Vilamar after setting my filters to only include Copacabana Beach area hotels that offered a pool. I’d say it was perfectly reasonable in terms of cleanliness, service, location, buffet breakfast, internet speed, room quality, etc. Sadly, a pool was a tropical vacation imperative, & in this area the Vilamar failed to deliver. Their pool & steam room remained out of order for the entirety of our 6 day stay. While we were told repeatedly repairs might be completed the next day, that day never came during our stay. They could’ve stated on hotels.com these features would be unavailable, or notified me of this fact by email, but, alas, did not. On our day of departure, w/ a flight that left shortly after 12am, I asked if it would be possible to keep our room until 10pm @ no extra charge. I wouldn’t normally make such a request, but as staff was well aware of our disappointment w/ the pool situation, I felt a complimentary 10 hr check out ext request was hardly unreasonable. Upon having front desk staff refuse our request, we asked to speak to the mgr. She offered a free 2 hr extension, but otherwise wouldn’t budge on requiring a charge of 1/2 the daily room rate for the addl 10 hrs. I found the hotel completely acceptable & lovely, this pool matter aside. I would, however, be reluctant to return to any hotel I felt cheated me out of the most important amenity I seek in a vacation experience, & is then unwilling to make any accommodation for their service shortcomings.
