Historic 1869 Whiskey Mtn. Home Great Location- Sleeps 15-22 Great Location
My place is close to Garner State Park (3 Miles), Lost Maples Park, Frio River, Concan, Utopia, Kerrville, & Uvalde. The famous three sisters (best driving roads in the USA) You’ll love my place because of the location, the ambiance, and the outdoors space. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, families (with kids), big groups, and furry friends (pets), Pets are an additional $15 per pet, per night. If you are wondering how we got our name Whiskey Mountain….Many years ago during the prohibition times, a whiskey distillery was developed in a cave in the mountain behind our property. The Bootleggers were caught selling their production and the local population decided to call this “area” Whiskey Mountain. It was built in 1869 and is a 1 ½ story German farmhouse with a lot of history and tales! The stories written tell of families full of love with dances in the front rooms and horses tied up to the front cypress tree posts that hold up the 50 foot front porch! Whiskey Mountain Inn is nestled in the Texas Hill Country off Hwy 83 about 3 miles South of Leakey, Texas. We are convenient in location to many attractions in the Frio River area such as Garner State Park and Lost Maples State Natural Area and we are within a very short distance to river access. This house suited our large family just right, we had a great time and the house had a farm house cozy feeling. Our children and family loved the time we spent together. There was plenty of supplies to make a whole Thanksgiving dinner. We definitely will be coming back in the future and highly recommend it.
The owner had great communication and allowed us to bring our dogs. She was very helpful. The property was so clean and was nice and quiet. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anyone.
The house was older with a pretty closed floor plan. It was in a great location for Garner State Park and tubing the Frio. It served the purpose for a last minute trip. The only hassle really was having to bring all our own towels and bedding for everyone on the trip and having to make all the beds once we got there.
This was the perfect stop for our entire family. The location is so close to eveything Garner State Park, Utopia, Frio River, and our favorite Lost Maples.
The place has the old country feel but with all the modern necessities. It was so peaceful with all the beautiful trees. So much room to explore around the big home. The beds were very comfortable.
Lots of activities for us to do. My family loved hanging aroung the firepit at the end of the night sharing great stories.
The cabins are very soaced aoart. So you have room to explore. You are close to a few stores if you forget something.
We definitely will visit again. We enjoyed traveling through the roads with the beautiful trees as a backdrop.
The house was really cool. We enjoyed the old home, the hardwood floors and such. Sleeping arrangements were fine. Some of the smaller mattresses on the beds were not comfortable according to some of our family members. And if only two bathrooms is a challenge for you, that could be an issue. We did fine.
Over all we had a great stay. Nice property but a little cramped for our big Ol’ Family. One small issue with a door but nothing that kept us from enjoying our stay:)
Great location but we had to cut our trip short. Every night you could hear rats running around. The in-laws saw some on the restroom and you can heard them trough the walls.
Great historical house with an amazing property! Plenty big enough for the entire family.
Only cons for us were having to bring your own towels and sheets plus no washer and dryer. So if your staying longer period of time with the whole family not having this amenity can be a bummer. Also having an actual shower would be nice!
Overall great house, great host and plenty to offer.
The location and communication with the host was great, however there was an issue with the sewage system over following into the yard. This caused one of the bathrooms to be out of order which was inconvenient with 18 people staying in the house. Other than that it was great.

Disappointed
We checked in at 4:00pm. Storm hit at 7:00 and by 7;20 we had no power. We waited around to see when it was gonna come back on. 21/2 hours we left for a motel because of our lil ones. When emailed the next day we got one short email and it said “ there is nothing we can do, we have no control over the storm! They didn’t respond to anything after that…

Lovely historic home
Our family stayed at Whiskey Mt.over the July 4th holidays. Lovely home with everything we needed. We were looking for a spot that would sleep 15-17 . Overall it worked well. There are a/c window units in each bedroom , kitchen , and living room. The bathrooms do get a bit hot in the summer during the day but it was not a big deal. Porches were wonderful in the late summer evenings, we could see fireworks around the area from the fire pit area. Really spectacular. We also chose this location because we were really close to Garner state park and the Frio River. While Garner is a great park it is really crowded in summer, so we only went one day , you have to go before 8 a.m. and get in a long line ( 1 1/2 hour) to get in for the day. They close the gates when all parking is full. We actually enjoyed the Frio river more. Very clean and natural. The Happy Hallow was suggested by owners for floating and it was great. You can shuttle your self or use theirs. This was a great spot for the Frio floating. Owners were helpful and easy going. If we had been right on the river it would have been perfect, but it was just a short drive.
We have been coming to the Frio every summer since 2008 and we love it , This was our first time to stay at Whiskey Mountain Inn and we really enjoyed our stay it was very roomy for our big family
My family and I had a fantastic time at the Whiskey Mountain Cabins. The main house was very quaint and provided a great place for everyone to gather. Our host, Cassie, was also very helpful while we were planning for the trip. We will definitely return.

Rental did not match the high price per night
At first glance it’s beautiful but then you stay the first night and notice….The doors don’t close, the furniture is falling apart, the restrooms are dirty one restroom doesn’t have a stand up shower, only an old fashion tub with a hand held shower attachment, only the two children took a bath in that restroom, the adults took a shower in the upstairs bathroom we had to put a towel to stand in tub because it was filthy and it had mildew around tub, the sinks are old and dirty, one room doesn’t have a door, the twin beds are low end that they make so much noise at night, some mattresses are comfortable but other mattresses were so bad that we had to go buy air mattresses to be able to sleep, the window units were loud and had a musty smell and the septic system is so bad, WiFi is weak even when there is an emergency the phones are useless. Yes, I understand that it’s a cabin in the country and it should be rustic and it is used to relax but it shouldn’t be dirty and falling apart. Expectations are high for the price and it should match the rental house. We won’t come back.
We had a family stay at whiskey mountain inn. All together there were 15 people who stayed including toddlers, adults, my grandma and 6 dogs. The house accommodated us all very comfortably. There was plenty of room for everyone. The location was excellent! We were so close to the river and to garner state park. We definitely enjoyed our stay. From visiting the rivers and tubing to making s’mores in the backyard, everything was very enjoyable. This house has a huge front patio where everyone can sit and relax and also a cute patio in the back where we would play games and hangout and look at the stars. The kitchen is huge! Plenty of space for everyone to cook and eat. However, there are many signs all around the house that let you know you will be charged if something is damaged. Although it is good to know these things, it makes you feel a little worried the entire trip that you’ll get charged for something in the end. Overall though, it was a very fun and pleasant stay.

Disappointed. Not worth it.
Overall our stay at Whiskey Mountain Inn was pretty good. The value for what we paid was not competitive. I did not feel the love or welcome ness from the host, but rather an over lurking sense that the host wanted me to screw up so I could be charged more money. The property has a mishap mash of decor that was confusing and seemed to be compiled of left overseas, hand me downs, and/or garage sale thrift finds. Example the old pots, pans, and kitchen utensils, the dining table, the couch in the living room, the high bed...etc.
There were a couple of major issues.
1) Cleanliness. Especially of kitchen, remarkably the stove, pans, and utensils. The upstairs bathroom shower. If I'm going to spend this much, I expect a clean place.
2) Bathrooms. Unable to flush toilet paper. With 8 guests in our party, we were fearful of plumbing issues since warning signs that the septic system cannot handle top flush indicated old pipes and faulty system which we could be charged for.
3) Warning signs of being charged all over property. $500 if we didn't cIean, $200 or more if septic problems, etc... I was so fearful of what my final bill would be and worried the whole trip.
4) Breakables all over property. Especially in kitchen. Kitchen hutch and bakers racks were covered in breakable dishes, decorations, glass jars, etc. I was so worried something would get broken and we would be charged. Filled storage spaces and did not leave room for the supplies we thought we were going to need based on the listing. The listing made it sound like hardly anything would be available so we packed way more than we needed to bring. Host might consider taking out breakables and replacing with paper/plastic goods as we had no Tupperware/storage containers.
5) All air conditioning is through window units. House has a musty smell. Upstairs bathroom was especially hot and uncomfortable. There is mold growing due to the humidity in the room.
6) Store on property was only open one day during trip for a few hours. It would have been nice to access more.
7) WiFi was horrible.
8) If you are a Verizon cell phone user, you will have no cell phone service for about a 30 - 40 mile radius of this property and you will not be able to rely on the WiFi at the property.
I was disappointed. We definitely overpaid. The friends who stayed with us were astounded by the rent and showed me much cheaper options available on waterfront. We will be smarter next time and will not be staying there again.
Great spot near Garner State Park and Lost Maples. Nearby town in case you need anything.
Our only issue was the water would get extremely hot even when only the cold faucet was turned. Turned out to not be too big of a deal but in summer heat this could of been a bigger problem.
Other than that it was a great stay and would recommend!
