About this property
Entire place
You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.
Orchard View Cottage close to beaches, walks, wineries and the Abel Tasman.
Orchard View Cottage is situated on 20 acres of private land which includes pasture, native bush, garden and riverside. The cottage overlooks the property with recently felled pine forest to the rear.
Well away from the road the cottage is ideally situated for families with children, trout fishermen (as the Riwaka River borders the property), and those people who just want to sit back and relax.
Orchard View can sleep 4 people in 2 bedrooms (one queen and two single bunk beds) Freshly laundered bed linen and towels are provided for your use. A fifth guest can be accommodated on the sofa bed and a cot is available on request.
The kitchen is well equipped with utensils, crockery, pots and pans, electric stove, large fridge/freezer, microwave and toaster. In the living/dining area there is Sky TV and DVD player and Chromecast.
Mobile phone coverage is a little hit and miss but there is unlimited free WiFi.
The large deck which catches the sun all day is furnished with gas BBQ, tables and chairs for outdoor dining. Here you can relax, enjoy the views across the valley, spot the native birds and listen to their song. Theses include fantails, kereru, tuis, bellbirds, kingfishers, wekas and more. On a clear night the deck becomes a perfect spot for star gazing.
A three minute stroll will bring you to the riverside or feel free to explore the property and make friends with the animals which include a 2 Labrador dogs, cat, mini horses, a few hens, geese and ducks.
A 10 minute drive, or an easy 40 minute walk, from the cottage will bring you to the Riwaka Resurgence which is where the northern branch of the Riwaka River emerges from the depths of the Takaka Hill. The cottage also provides a perfect base from which to explore the beautiful Abel Tasman National Park or laze on the beaches of Kaiteriteri and Marahau which are all only about15 minutes away by car. A day trip 'over the hill' to Golden Bay is a must. Enjoy the scenery, which you might well recognise from the Lord of The Rings, as you travel up the Takaka Hill. Visit Harewoods Hole (the deepest vertical shaft in New Zealand), or stroll down the main street of Takaka, well recognised for its arts and crafts community where you will also find a good selection of restaurants and cafés.
Coffee, tea, sugar and condiments are provided on arrival as are basic cleaning materials. Other provisions can be found in Motueka a 15 minute drive away.
UNLIMITED FREE Wi-Fi.

The property is very welcoming to pets and has a delightful collection of animals to visit on site. It is so quiet and restful. I definitely plan to stay again!
Great proximity to the beach etc considering the price. Check in was easy and communication good. Accommodation was quite basic, but setting was lovely.
We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay at this lovely, well appointed cottage with amazing views of surrounding hills. Loved breakfast on the sunny deck.Great shower, comfortable bed and friendly, helpful hosts. Being pet friendly was an added bonus as we like holidaying with our two dogs if possible. Conveniently close to Motueka for takeaways and shopping.Thoroughly recommend!
Great little kiwi bach among native forest and farm land. Set in a quiet valley close to a stream the property abounds with bird life making for a tranquil stay.
I could not find any negative aspects. The old, rustic cottage was beautifully presented and fulfilled all my needs. It was quiet and peaceful, with friendly, approachable hosts. I highly recommend this property.
A lovely peaceful setting beside the river. Our hosts were fantastic and helpful but also considerate of our space. The animals were an added highlight. The cottage was cute and clean.
We loved our stay at Kate and Lens cottage. It was a perfect base for our holiday; a quick drive to surrounding beaches, swimming holes and walking spots. Reminiscent of the kiwi bach, there was everything we needed. It became a favourite spot for our toddler, who enjoyed following the odd weka or chicken around. Thank you for making us feel welcome!
Lovely country cottage with all amenities and lots of extras.A joy to sit on the veranda, listen to the bird song, watch the animals, view the native bush and see the vehicles climbing up Takaka Hill.
We stayed in the cottage for about a week over the new year period. It is a great base and location to explore all that Tasman has to offer. 10 min drive from Kaiteriteri (one of the best family beaches anywhere in the world), Motueka, and an easy day trip up go Tākaka.
We had a wonderful time enjoying the quietness, tranquility, and bird life of area.
Kate and Len made everything super easy.
Thanks very much
A old fashioned Kiwi bach in peacefull surroundings with a lovely sunny porch to relax Chloe the labrador will come c u . And Sky TV is free as well as frash organic eggs from the farm
A very cute rustic cottage. Close enough to Kaiteriteri for the beach and mountain biking and just up the road from the amazing Riwaka Resurgence. A little winery along the road plus a fruit stall and over the hill for a day in Tākaka. Set on a little farm. Noisy weka at night and the bunks are smaller than usual but the teenage boys didn’t mind at all. Certainly not luxurious but quaint and quirky. The hosts were great and went above and beyond to help us when we left something behind after departure. Thank you for a lovely holiday.
We had a reunion of 3 old friends and stayed in this quaint cottage . We could sing and dance and not interrupt anyone. It had all of the home comforts we needed including washing machine and kitchen. Shower pressure excellent . We even enjoyed fresh eggs provided from the farm! Len and Kate the hosts were so hospitable. They made us feel right at home in their little slice of paradise. We were handy to Able Tasman for our tramping and swimming. We also had easy access to the scenic highlights like the Riwaka Resurgence and Takaka Hill. Thanks to Kate for providing us with extra local information
Loved the location (although there was a logging operation right behind that would have affected especially being there during the day) There was a double bed in one room and bunks in another that were suitable only for children (short and narrow) not adults. So, as we booked to have separate adult spaces this was misleading. Otherwise we had everything we needed. The sofa bed was used for guests as the listing said we could have up to four people.
Such a fun farmstay for the kids; hosts very friendly and happy to show kids how to feed ponies, hold chicks etc. Cows, llama, ducks and a safe pebbled river all added to the charm.Accomodation is genuine old style kiwi batch. Low ceilings and a bit wonky but full of charm. Two bedrooms, bunks are kid size - adults would definitely struggle, plus very large sofa bed in living area. Well equipped kitchen & laundry and plenty of spare towels - even for the dog!Area is mostly fenced but there are gaps so if you’ve got a curious one may need to keep an eye on them. Our dog loved chasing wekas and talking to the llama. Clean and tidy. Close to Riwaka resurgence and out the way of busy Kaiteriteri but only a short drive away. Very peaceful. Stars were amazing. Kids want to come back.
We really enjoyed the peacefulness and quietness of this location yet close to the Abel Tasman region and Motueka. The Cottage was cute and had everything we needed for our stay, and the host very helpful.
Wonderful stay in a country cottage retreat. Place was as described and had all equipment to make our busy stay comfortable. Owner was friendly and helpful.
We had a wonderful stay in the cottage. Very peaceful spot with entertaining wildlife and a great location to explore from. The cottage has everything you could need. We would certainly stay here again.
We absolutely loved our stay at Kate's picturesque cottage. Our relaxing stay in Riwaka Valley was a highlight of our holiday, thank you. We hope to be back again.
My family had an excellent holiday at the cottage. It is in a picturesque location and handy to the many surrounding activities. Thanks so much for having us.
