Exceptional hosts and property! Quiet but not too far from places to go a and eat and things to do. Work in could use some work, but that isn't the hosts fault.
Cozy, well equipped cabin close to Stone Mountain and wineries.
Cabin has everything you need and more. Lots of little touches. Very private! Nice to have a fireplace and also a fire pit - enjoyed both! Highly recommend!
We enjoyed our stay in this home. The firepit was especially nice with plenty of dried wood to burn. The beds were great as well as the furniture in the living room.
We were able to hear traffic on Route 21, which is why I rated location as a 4…but the property itself is beautiful, and when sitting on the back porch you could not hear traffic.
We had such an incredible time at this mountain cabin. The location was absolutely perfect. The owner made herself available by phone for the questions that we had prior to arrival. There were numerous hospitable touches all throughout the cabin. We went golfing and fishing, and came back each night thoroughly exhausted and so delighted to get to unwind in the peaceful and beautiful outdoors at the cabin. Definitely planning on a return trip!
My wife and I really enjoyed our stay here. The location was great for hiking Stone Mountain and heading into Sparta for shopping/dining. The house was cleaned and had everything we needed. Host was nice and responsive. We look forward to our next stay!
We had a great stay at this charming and peaceful cabin. The space was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. Perfect for unwinding. Would definitely return! We also saw an interesting bird in the surrounding woodland. The Hooded Warbler! See photo taken from the from front porch.

Rain did not dampen our stay.
Cabin was clean, modern and cozy. Weather was on the cool side, but the electric wall heaters functioned well to keep us warm. The kitchen had all the pots and dishes we needed to cook full meals. Our hosts were attentive, and available to answer questions. They had stocked the cabin with movies and board games, and provided a strong wifi signal. It was a great place to relax after a long day at Merlefest.
It was great that this place was only 1.5 hours from where we live in Greensboro. The convenience store down the hill was great with friendly staff and a wide selection. The property was very clean and well stocked with essential items that made our stay easy. Even in August the weather was relatively cool outside which was nice but we had to rely on the fans inside for cooling as I don't think the property has AC (at least I couldn't find any). Probably meant more for a winter getaway.
The cabin was close to the park (about a ten minute drive). It had a queen bed in one room with a half bath and a twin bed and a bunk bed set with a full size bed on bottom in the second bedroom. Their was a full bath with tub shower off the hall. The gas fireplace added to the ambiance. The best part was how the owner had stuff to make s'mores in the firepit. There were also condiments and some sodas from prior tenants in the frig. She left us some snacks as well. Perfect little place for a girl's weekend!
Very peaceful and quiet cottage nestled in rhododendron grove and forest. Mount Retreat road could use a little maintenance following what appeared to be some recent washout at the beginning of the road just after the turn from Green House Rd. That didn't cause any problem, it was just a little rough.
The cottage interior is freshly renovated and clean. The kitchen is fully equipped for preparing most meals. I cooked breakfasts, dinners, and prepared pie, cake, and casserole to take to the family Thanksgiving dinner in the next county. I was glad I brought my hand mixer and 9" cake pans, just in case, as I didn't expect to find these items.
Location is great! There are 3 lovely golf courses within a mile of the cottage. We found a choose and cut Christmas tree farm within a few miles, near the entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway where you will find breathtaking vistas. Sparta is only 15 minutes away if you need groceries or want to shop for arts, crafts, or gifts, grab dinner, or hangout in a brewery. Stone Mountain State park is nearby with great for hiking.
Roaring Gap is a beautiful area and the cabin is cozy, well appointed, and very comfortable. It has plenty of entertainment, such as games, puzzles, books, fire pit with fixings for s’mores. We went hiking up Stone Mountain while we were there. It was a very nice time.

Comfy cabin in Roaring Gap!
We spent about a week in the area sightseeing and hiking. The cabin offered everything we needed for a great stay!
Nice mountain getaway over Christmas. It was decorated with a Christmas tree and nice touches. The outdoor space was fun for football and there is a nice porch. The bathroom for the master is tiny, just a sink and toilet. So the hall bathroom is the main bathroom (bath/shower). It was fine for our vacation. Gas fireplace was nice and worked beautifully. The kids loved the foosball table and the playroom. The kitchen had everything one could need and was well organized. They had kurig coffee. The beds were comfortable. I felt safe in the house and the area. I would not bring a super nice car as there are potholes on the road up and the bushes were not well trimmed. I think a 4WD would be preferable. All in all, we had a great stay and we were sad when it was time to leave.
We recently stayed for a long weekend...working at the Merlefest Bluegrass Festival in N. Wilkesboro...was a nice quiet retreat from the hectic festival scene after a long day working. We didn't see a soul up there all weekend, which was just fine with us. Place was perfect, hosts were friendly and attentive, and so thoughtful. We will be returning! JWR
We loved staying in this clean and comfortable cabin! It was is a great location that allowed us access to everything we wanted to do in Virginia and North Carolina. If you enjoy antiquing, there is a store right down the road from the cabin and we enjoyed searching the 19 rooms at the Antique Emporium in Marion, VA. There are many more antique stores in VA and NC, but we didn't have time to visit them all. The area is so beautiful and we enjoyed coming back to a comfortable retreat to relax every night during our stay. We loved using the easy, gas fireplace as it was a bit chilly at night and we were also pleased with the comfort of the beds in the cabin. Thanks for the special touches that made us feel at home, Jennifer; your chickens must be huge!!
We really enjoyed our time at the Mountain Retreat. The house was very comfortable and has some lovely, homey touches. Loved hanging out on the front porch and the far fresh eggs that Jennifer left for us were delicious. She was very helpful and easy to reach. Hope that we can come back again.
We loved the cabin and had so much fun staying here. The location was great. The host was amazing and thought of all of our needs. Perfect family getaway.
Mt Retreat was everything we could have wished for and more. The cabin is absolutely perfect, the host thought of everything we could have needed. We loved having fires in the evenings, cooking out on the grill and eating out on the back patio. The proximity to Stone Mt was great. Loved the whole experience!
