Historic Silver Beach house - 1 block from downtown State St.

BEST LOCATION IN DOWNTOWN ST. JOE!
This beautiful historic house is only a short block from State St. restaurants, wineries, and boutiques. Just one block to the bluffs that will take you down the steps to Silver Beach. You can see downtown St. Joe and the bluffs from the front porch of the house!

Located on State St. in the Historic District, the "McNeil House" was originally built in 1855. While it still holds its historic charm, it resonates the coastal beach life!
We all love our pets and hate to leave them behind, so we welcome up to two well-groomed pets as long as guests agree to follow our pet rules. As a courtesy to future guests that may have severe allergies to pets, we DO NOT allow pets on the furniture or bedding, and guests must clean up any additional shedding. Pet's must be crated when left alone. Guests must pick up after them outside. We charge $175 Per pet. Please let us know if you'll be bringing a pet.

The host requires you to complete the following before checking out:
Load and start the dishwasher
Strip any used beds and gather used towels
Remove personal items and take out the rubbish
Turn off the lights and lock the doors
Please start a load of towels in the front load washer located in the basement. Make sure grill is clean & covered Check for leftover belongings
Cleaners will arrive at 11am and will do an inspection before cleaning. Please report anything that was accidentally damaged during your stay so we can make arrangements to make the necessary repairs
Turn thermostat to 75 degrees during the summer and 65 in the winter
Failure to complete these may result in a negative review from the host.

Rules

No Special events or parties allowed. No fireworks. Guests are expected to respect the house and property and leave it clean as they found it.
2 pets are allowed @ $125 per pet. Pets are not allowed on the furniture/bedding and must be crated when left alone. Pickup after them outside.
Brush sand off of your body and shake it out of your towels before entering the house. Rinse dishes before putting them in the dishwasher.

Love the location!!

We loved the accessibility to downtown, the restaurants, the shops (Kilwins and Full of Crepe were favorites) And also to the beach. We could walk everywhere and enjoy everything thing St Joe offers. We were a large family group with a lot of different ages, from an infant to retirees. Everyone enjoyed the house. Very clean with enough room for our group of 14. We will be back!

Girls Weekend

The house was absolutely perfect for a girls weekend. Lots of bedrooms and plenty of room to hang out. We couldn't have asked for a better location, we were close to shops and restaurants .. didn't need to use the car all weekend! Highly recommend!!

Great location!!! Short walk to downtown and the silver beach pizza restaurant!!!A little further walk to silver beach and or the piers!!! Great restaurants and bars within walking distance. We parked our car Thursday night and didn’t need to use our car until we left on Sunday. We would definitely stay here again!

Great place in St Joseph MI for a family gathering.

My siblings and our families had a great holiday weekend here. The house was big enough to give everyone their own sleeping space, and the living area was great for gathering as a family. Location close to downtown and silver beach was a plus- we could walk everywhere we needed to go.

Great location. Pretty little park across the street and just one block from downtown or the bluff overlooking Lake Michigan. House was comfortable and had room enough for 11 family members.

Family reunion vacation.

Staying with Family for a Wedding

The house was great!! It's location gave us so much to do in our spare time! Kids went to the Children's museum. The fall colors were wonderful! I would definitely stay again. The kitchen was well equipped. I made breakfast and had everything I needed. The only negative I have is that there is only 1 bathroom upstairs for 4 bedrooms. It was okay for us because we were not at capacity, but it might be an issue for others.

Thanksgiving stay

Good experience. Very old house with dangerous wooden steps, dim lighting, limited electrical outlets. Property was advertised with 3 bathrooms, however only had 2 1/2. Upstairs shower needs new shower curtain liner as it leaks out back. Great location! Somewhat expensive for wintertime stay. We appreciated being allowed to checkin early. But our grandchildren ended up not being able to come ☹️.

Large and nice home, great location!

Location-wise, you can’t beat this house! It’s a block away from the downtown area and a very short walk to the bluff or the beach. Yet it’s quiet at night and situated on a beautiful residential block. The house is also very well stocked. It can accommodate at least a dozen people, and each bedroom had a stack of towels and washcloths. The kitchen has everything you might need to cook your meals. The bed in the master was comfortable, and the house has dual temperature control in the upstairs and downstairs. There are also games in the living room, and the big dining room table is a great place to play. Overall, I recommend this house if you’re looking for comfort and convenience!

The home was advertised as “No pets allowed,” When we got there the cleaning person was just leaving and commented that the prior guests had a large husky and she tried to get all the dog hair up, but wasn’t certain she got all of it. I looked up the listing Ava sure enough, it stated “no pets allowed.” Cleaner said many guests bring their dogs to this home. I communicated to the host that we booked the home under the assumption that no pets were allowed. Then I sent photos of the dog hair EVERYWHERE. The first night, sitting in the couch in the living room, I felt my asthma start kicking in. TBF, it also could have been that it was a 100 year old home and the basement where you need to go down to put the towels in the wash is old and musty so I’m sure there’s mold going on as well—which is to be expected in a home this old. Host did give us a $100 cleaning fee refund. Home was not as well furnished as we are used to with other VRBO’s. No salt, pepper, or any spices. No aluminum foil, waxed paper, ziplock bags, leftover containers. Many light bulbs missing. Listing states fireplace; it was actually just a piece of furniture with an electric fireplace for show only—no heat given off and in my mind, NOT a fireplace. Listing also stated there was a grill. The grill was in the attached garage and looked like it hadn’t seen the light of day in years. No way we were putting our food on it. The location is 10/10 but otherwise we would’ve passed on this rental.

Perfect Location

We had a girls weekend. There were 9 of us. This house is perfect for a large group. The location is walking distance to EVERYTHING. The beds are super comfortable. An added surprise is the first floor bedroom (#2) is an en-suite. I would definitely recommend this property. I will definitely return the next time I find myself in St. Joseph. Great house in a fantastic location

We stayed at this home for 5 nights with a large family group, ages 3-68. We absolutely loved it! The house is very old in an established neighborhood one block from downtown and one block from the lake view. We walked to the beach every day and loved how close it was to everything - we barely needed the car during our trip. The house had a few minor issues (again, old house) but Rebecca was responsive and accommodating and fixed all issues to our satisfaction. We had a simply lovely stay and will definitely be back.

Excellent Accomodations!

A large group of friends stayed here based on the number of rooms, beds, and short distance to the cute downtown area and the lake. We all enjoyed our stay. This house has a lot of charm and is on the older side, but being over 160 years old you have to expect settling in the house. I would stay here again!
