"The chateau has a beautiful setting and great potential. Our spacious room was charming with at least 14 foot ceilings and a large remodeled bathroom. But, there were some definite downsides: since there is no AC, we opened the windows which required moving a table (not a big deal) and the fan in our room was much appreciated; the beautiful 14 ft draperies were impossible to open and close (no rod or cords, so we had to try to jerk them closed--see picture--it was a good thing we wanted to get up early); there was mold visible all along the window frames; the tub was hard to get in and out of and had no partition or curtain (try as we might, we couldn't use the handheld shower to wash our hair without getting the floor wet); finally despite leaving two written requests to the staff to fill empty soap and lotion dispensers, these were ignored."

"The location was quiet and nice. I could easily walk to downtown Caen in about 15 minutes. There's also a nearby bus stop for those that prefer not to walk. Transportation around Caen is excellent (better than in any US city except maybe NYC). There's a very nearby mini-mart, bakery (do note that their baked goods are delivered, so I recommend walking to a real bakery instead!), and pharmacy. The front desk staff was always pleasant and helpful. The mini-kitchen is a little smaller than I would have liked, but I still did plenty of cooking during my two and half week stay. The entrance to the hotel is a little tricky to find since it is behind a gated parking lot. I was on foot so had no issues."

"DON’T STAY until they replace the shower plumbing. The shower is smaller than a telephone booth (not so unusual) but the fixture is a single lever for both volume and temperature that is EASILY bumped with your body and can send scalding water into the shower. They need a dual control, one for temperature and one for volume, like we have had in numerous hotels throughout our travels in Europe. The current situation is unsafe and unacceptable. Beyond that, the hotel is ideally located for tours, restaurants, and for exploring the area. It is clean and well maintained and the staff were helpful and friendly. It’s really a great hotel with a dangerous shower."
