Gîte "Le Balcon de Villette", beautiful view, balcony and garden

Christiane and Roland welcome you to their cottage for 4 to 6 people, in the countryside with a breathtaking view of the Chartreuse mountains.
The gîte "Le balcon de Villette" is ideal for a stay with family or friends.
In summer, you can hike the trails of the Chartreuse regional park, swim in the lakes of Aiguebelette and Paladru, in the swimming pools (Saint-Laurent-du-Pont, Saint-Pierre de Chartreuse) or in the pools of 1600 and 800m2 (ecological swimming, Rivier'Alp, Les-Echelles). A large terrace and a balcony will allow you to spend pleasant moments outside.
In winter, you can practice alpine skiing (Saint-Pierre de Chartreuse, Saint Hugues ...), cross-country skiing (La Ruchère, Saint-Hugues, Desert d'Entremont ...) or snowshoeing.
In all seasons, you can visit the cellars of the Grande Chartreuse (Voiron), the museums of the big neighboring cities (Grenoble, Chambéry, Voiron) and take advantage of the markets (Saint-Laurent-du-Pont, Voiron ...)
We will be happy to share with you our love of the Chartreuse, our knowledge of many hikes and the pleasure of meeting new people!

Perfect base for exploring the Chartreuse
My wife and I were slightly nervous about taking a gite where the owners lived downstairs, but we needn't have worried as Christiane and Roland were discreet and welcoming hosts - think an aperitif on their terrace on arrival and a pot of still warm home made jam thrust into your hand. The house is spacious and lovely. Roland built it himself (he is a joiner by trade) and he and Christiane lived upstairs to begin with. More recently they converted the garages and moved downstairs. That feeling of it being a really well built, solid family home persists, and it was a very relaxing environment to be in. We particularly enjoyed the generous balcony with plenty of space to eat outdoors (and use Roland's ingenious device for positioning the parasol in exactly the right place) and have the most wonderful view of the Chartreuse mountains. We enjoy self-catering, so having a decent boulangerie (there are three apparently), weekly Thursday market of fresh vegetables, cheese, meat etc, as well as a decent supermarket all in nearby St Laurent du Pont was fantastic. St L du P is a well equipped town. We love walking and found the Chartreuse hills even better than the Bauges area to the North, where we had spent a couple of holidays. Christiane was very helpful in suggesting walks. We both speak good French so chatting with them was a delight. They were always keen to hear our exploits for the day! So all in all we would highly recommend this house (and hosts) as the perfect base for exploring the Chartreuse.

What a Lucky Find!
We can't say enough about this beautiful and comfortable stay. We visited with Roland and Christiane for 3 nights in July. Their house is absolutely gorgeous, as Roland built the home himself and Christiane decorated it with attention to detail. The owners live on the ground level and were helpful, friendly and very gracious in our lack of French. They even took us on a hike up the Petit Som and we stopped at a local bread festival and other sights on the way back. It really felt like we were visiting new friends or family, and we didn't want to leave. The surrounding towns are breathtaking and welcoming. We went caving, canyoneering and hiking. We also visited the local ecological swimming pool and many cafes. This was a wonderful part of our trip that we will never forget. Thanks to the owners!

Peaceful location with spectacular views!
This is a great gite, well equipped and perfectly maintained inside and out. Christiane and Roland are incredibly hospitable, eager to make your stay as enjoyable and comfortable as they possibly can. We enjoyed welcome drinks as well as home made jam! There are plenty of mountains to walk and cycle and beautiful lakes near by. There is a large balcony which runs around the gite offering plenty of outside dining/drinking areas whilst you enjoy the spectacular views, in fact the kitchen is better equipped than our own!! We would highly recommend this gite.

un paradis terrestre
Sometimes, a photo and a description of a vacation rental do not represent the actual circumstances that will be found upon arrival. The photos and descriptions provided by the hosts of Le Balcon de Villette represent exactly what you will experience during your stay. In fact, our expectations were exceeded! The views are stunning! The rooms (bathroom, bedrooms, living and dining rooms and kitchen) are impeccably clean and well furnished with every comfort and utensil that you might need. I think that the kitchen was even better equipped than our own at home - with great appliances and gadgets that American kitchens do not always have. The beds were exceptionally comfortable with a variety of blankets to choose from. Heavy curtains made sleeping in total darkness a treat. The silence at night (and during the day) were soothing after our previous stays in larger cities in France. The owners, Christiane and Roland, who live downstairs, were always ready to recommend a hike, give directions, answer all our questions. This was easily the best vacation rental we have found in all our travels to France! We only had four nights to spend here, but we will be sure to book a longer stay next time. There are so may hikes to do, many villages to visit, and much history to absorb.

Amazing mountain views and a warm welcome!
This is a lovely gite with all the comforts of home and views to die for. Christiane and Roland made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived on a very hot day. We were welcomed with drinks, home baking, wine and genuine hospitality. The accommodation was to a very high standard with everything that we needed. There were dining and seating areas both inside and outside on the wrap around balcony providing areas to retreat from the sun when needed. We so enjoyed sitting out in the evenings and playing cards with the children over a glass of wine while the sun went down over the mountains. The area is well placed for travelling around the Chartreuse mountains and the amenities of the local town were a very short drive away. I would definitely recommend this gite. Thank you Christiane and Roland. We would definitely return to your lovely gite. Sorry our French was not a little better! Thanks Lesley, Simon, Ashley and Mia

Wonderful home and beautiful mountains!
Madame and Monsieur are truly gracious hosts. The property is so well maintained and beautiful. Our beds were very comfortable and the kitchen is well appointed. We slept with the windows open and loved the 60 degree evenings in July! There really isn't much more to say that others guests haven't already posted, except that it is well worth the effort to visit this lovely home and mountainous area. Also, we used GPS in the rental car to find restaurants in nearby towns. The grocery store is just in town and be patient to find which restaurants are open during your stay. La Montagnard et L'Auberge de Jet were our faves and not far.

Rooms with a view!
An immaculate gite with wonderful views and most friendly, informative and hospitable owners (living below). Be prepared to self cater, however, as (in June at any rate) there was very limited choice of restaurants. A car needed to access the property and get to local places of interest.

Fantastic house, great views, spectacular location, lovely hosts
You will love this house! It is big and well furnished, with lots of extras (blankets, books, games, balcony chairs and umbrellas, great stuff in the kitchen, etc). All the rooms are comfortable, and the views from the bedroom, kitchen, living room, and surrounding balcony are spectacular. The hosts, Christiane and Roland, who live downstairs, are lovely people. While they respect your privacy, they are happy to help. They gave us good tips on what to do and made sure we didn't miss the local farmer's market and the local flea market. They knew the hours of the shops and where to have a special meal out. We loved the surrounding area, which featured hiking trails, a cave/grotto on an old Roman road, a monastery, a bird sanctuary, etc. It was an easy drive to Annecy for a day by the lake and to Chamonix for a day on the lifts. We would definitely stay there again (and again). In fact, this might have been the best VRBO we've ever stayed in!
