Unique, very comfortable
Our family of 5 and small dog truly enjoyed our stay in this updated country home. Every detail has been thought of to make the stay memorable. Frederic was very helpful and accommodating even though we spoke no French. The nearby city of Saint Martin en Haut had plenty to do for a day and 1/2 before exploring Lyon about 30 minutes away. We walked to the medieval city of Rochefort and enjoyed two restaurants with wonderful French cuisine. We highly recommend this property and the area for a unique look into the country life. Amazing vistas also.

Wonderful countryside cottage for a real getaway
This is a very nice and cozy apartment in a restored farmhouse. One master bedroom (queen) and one secondary bedroom (twin/single bunkbed) upstairs, along with a bathroom and toilet. Downstairs is the sitting room and small kitchen. Out the windows you have a very pastoral view of farmhouses and fields across the valley. I believe the owner sometimes stays in the main section of the house, although he was away during my visit. The apartment has its own entry door, and is suitably separated from the rest of the house for privacy, should someone else be there. Internet access in the house is quite good. It can be tricky to find the place at first - turn off the main road (D311) at the sign for la Rafiliere. It is a very narrow and steep driveway. When it splits about 100m up, take the left (upper) road. You will make a sharp switchback turn just before the first house you encounter, and then keep going up a few hundred meters to your destination, on the left (look for the old VW van next to the house). Make sure to visit the ruins of the old church and walled compound at Rochefort - you can easily walk there by taking a left onto the driveway when you walk out of the house. Non-French speakers, be aware that basically nobody in the local villages speaks English, although they are very nice and will accommodate as best they can. Know some basic phrases, and keep a positive attitude! You can find basic supermarkets with food and such in the surrounding villages. I had a particularly nice time and meal at "La Bonne Table" in Thurins. All in all, this is a quiet and peaceful place for that great French countryside escape!

Calme et repos à volonté!
Tout s’est passé à merveille! Merci Frédéric pour ces belles vacances! On était triste de quitter ce beau petit coin de repos entouré par une magnifique nature. Idéal pour les vacances en nature avec notre chien, loin des sentiers battus. Tout ce qu’on souhaitait 😊 Tout était très propre! Un petit point d’amélioration serait l’aménagement du jardin ainsi que des meubles de jardins pour pouvoir profiter pleinement de l’environnement. C’est avec plaisir qu’on reviendra très bientôt!

Ein wunderbares Haus
Wir haben den Aufenthalt sehr genossen. Das Haus ist renoviert, aber der alte, ursprüngliche Charakter ist dabei nicht verlorengegangen. Die einfache Ausstattung der Aussenmöbel passt zum Stil des Hauses und ist daher nicht störend (zumal die Bänke überraschend bequem waren). Wir werden gerne einen weiteren Urlaub dort verbringen

Sehr schönes Ferienhaus in wunderbarer Umgebung
Sehr schön gelegenes renoviertes Ferienhaus, liebevoll eingerichtet. Den kleinen Ort St. Martin-en-Haut kann man gut zu Fuß erreichen und in der Nähe gibt es tolle Wanderwege. Frédéric ist ein sehr netter und hilfsbereiter Gastgeber, wir haben an diesem schönen Ort einen tollen Familienurlaub verbracht. / Maison de vacances rénovée et très bien située, aménagée avec soin. Le petit village de St Martin-en-Haut n'est pas loin de la maison, on peut en aller à pied et il y a de superbes sentiers de randonnée à proximité. Frédéric est un hôte très gentil, nous avons passé de superbes vacances en famille dans ce bel endroit.

Relaxing time in the mountains near Lyon
Perfect location for enjoying a holiday in a comfortable house with beautiful surroundings, nearby farm animals, good walks and interesting villages (with lots of entertainment like festivals, exhibitions, cinemas, cafés etc.). Not to forget the big city on the doorstep. Frédéric is a very friendly host.

Prachtige omgeving, ideaal voor wandelaars/ fietsers
Twee weken gelogeerd in het mooie, oude authentieke huis van Frédéric. Inrichting is smaakvol en compleet. Tijdens ons verblijf allerlei weertypes meegemaakt: onweer en buien en prachtig wandelweer. Het landschap is vriendelijk net als de mensen die er wonen. De natuur was prachtig, heel veel bloemen stonden in bloei ( begin juni) De tuin is heerlijk om daar te eten en om in de zon te zitten. St Martin en Haut is dichtbij en er is een wandelpad waardoor je de auto niet hoeft te pakken : je bent in korte tijd in het dorp. ( neem het paadje meteen achter het huis om een stukje af te snijden ) Tip: bezoek daar even het Maison de Pays , de vriendelijke dame daar helpt je graag met wandel of fietskaarten om de omgeving optimaal te kunnen ontdekken. Wil je naar Lyon, pak de bus in St Martin en laat je rijden naar Gare Gorge de Loupe; daar de metro nemen naar het oude centrum, 1 halte. Op het plein bij de kerk in St Martin en Haut, is een restaurant, voor een lunch of diner. Vergeet de pizzeria La Provençale niet. Hele aardige mensen met heerlijke pizza’s uit de houtoven die heel snel op je bord liggen.
