Nice place to stay with dogs. Jacuzzi was nice. Sauna worked was moldy. The heater was not working over the night. Overall was positive stay. There was not extra blankets available. There is a sofa bed not very clean. Communication was good with the owner.

The wall heater was repaired. A working radiant floor heating system also heats the area. A previous renter had taken the extra blanket. It has been replaced.

The housekeepers must have used gallons of bleach. The smell was overpowering. The keurig was broken- could not use. But it was exceptionally quiet and very easy locstion for finding my way around.

Unfortunately, the renters that used the keurig last had apparently dropped the machine & the reservoir was cracked 12 inches; from top to bottom. We don't check every appliance after every use & hope that the new renter reports the problem when they find it & not after they have left. That way I have a replacement brought in ASAP. We don't use gallons of bleach but the previous renter had left the rental in a condition that we had to use bleach. We normally don't.

This was a great stay to celebrate my birthday. I’m a nature person so I enjoyed the trees. I also liked the privacy. I wish the tub and towels were cleaner, and there were better instructions of how to operate the hot tub. Also, the door between the kitchen didn’t work so it would’ve been nice to have a curtain for more privacy when sleeping. Overall, it was a nice place for two people to stay for a few days

Ideal spot
Was going to an event in San Rafael and didn't want to drive home. This was the perfect spot for the night -- clean, quiet, quaint. Bed is super comfortable and I enjoyed the skylight.

We really enjoyed our stay at this delightful rental ! Very comfortable yet not lacking in our favorite amenities. A great kitchen with almost everything I could ever dream of using was there. The bed was great, very comfortable., Enjoyed the hottub for hours, 100% private ! We loved this place and would recommend it to everyone. Can't wait to visit again. .

This is a very sweet property, attractively decorated, user friendly regarding use of the kitchen, availability of electric outlets, etc. The outdoors area has a lovely place to sit and sip in the waning of the day. Ben provided excellent information on how to access the property, even painting the gate yellow so it would be more readily recognizable.

The shower had not been properly cleaned and the hot tub was not pristine, but it was well equipped and when we needed coffee because the Jurick was broken the manager provided it quickly. Overall a B+

The hot tub water had just been drained & refilled prior to this guest stay. Not clear as to the shower, not being clean; as a 2 person crew did their best. Coffee maker missing brewing cup has been replaced. I am sorry that this traveler was unhappy & hope that they will find another rental suitable to them, when they revisit the area.

No Privacy!
The place is nice, cozy, and well equipped. We were there for our anniversary and would have liked some privacy. The place is a duplex and the landlord lives on the other side. In the three nights that we were there, we got was multiple visits from the landlord, Comcast, and other repairman. The landlord also wanted to come in and paint, and bring in more repairmen, but we said no, however, he entered anyway when were gone, and without our consent. On top of that in the evening when we were back and wanted to relax, he was outside making a lot of loud noises with some kind of trash for about an hour. Sum it up, place was nice, but you'll get absolutely no peace from the landlord and the parking sucks.

TV cable need repair; as Comcast came to fix it twice, but permission was given. Refrigerator also needed a repair man & renter was notified as he informed me that he would be gone all day. Trash, recycle & green bins all have to be put out Monday night; no way around that. It has never happened that 2 appliances needed repair at the same time but as a responsible host it was taken care of. The renter parked for 3 days, right in front of the entrance to his rental & his negative comment about parking; is highly questionable to it's accuracy. The inconvenience of the repairs were a benefit to the renter & was a very small time compare to the privacy that the renter had for their 3 day stay. I am sorry that the guest was bothered for the emergency repairs but, it was unavoidable. The guest was not bothered any other time during his 3 day stay.

The phone conversation with the OWNER was not professional. He mentioned there was no early check in or late check out. Not very travel friendly. The directions to get in were long and complicated. Would have been easier to say enter the property on the left side where it says……. And put a name on the gate. At the entrance there were three full trash cans. We opened the gate to see a tiny entry way with empty small trash cans, short broom with dust pan and dust mop. We were charged to use hot tub when we had no intention to use it. There was a small kitchen with cluttered counters and a bedroom with a love seat tv and table. Whole place was very tiny and decor was very outdated. There was a wall heater that was off. The place was cold. Owner did not answer the phone on day of arrival. He only answered the day before. Definitely ver priced for such a tiny uncomfortable place.

My daughter, dog and I stayed here for a week and it was fine for our purposes. Clean, comfortable and also convenient to the freeway - it was also within walking distance of some nice hiking trails. The kitchen was also nicely laid out and was well equipped. It is very small however, and I wouldn't recommend it if you need two places to sleep (as we did) - although there is a sofa bed it's sagging in places and not great to sleep on. But just as a place to sleep for one person or a couple who is not looking for any extras or luxeries, this works just fine.

The listing states queen bed only. The sofa bed is left over when 3 people was allowed but, 1 year ago it was lowered to 2 people & the sofa bed was deleted.

Very quiet/ nice neighborhood with a small local park and friendly neighbors. Property is surprisingly private with lots of great natural lighting. Could be a great place
This place is in a great location in San Rafael close to lots the Bay Area offers. However, it is not well taken care of or cleaned. The host is not clear in either written or verbal communication. The outside of the property could be really cute but is dingy and unkempt with overgrown bushes and lots of leaf litter. I didn't feel comfortable trying the hot tub. The inside of the property is a mishmash of styles that detract from the wonderful Mid-Century architecture. The bed is comfortable but the bedroom area feels cluttered. The bathroom is a nice size but has only one dim overhead light. The kitchen, in contrast, has 4 lights. The kitchen is outdated and the counter surfaces felt sticky in places. The gas stove may need to be serviced as there was a gas smell in the kitchen unless the windows were left wide open. The dishes appeared clean. There was a keurig coffeemaker which was broken and a very old drip coffee maker which made weak, bad-tasting coffee. I had to cut open the keurig cups I bought just to have coffee in the morning. There were burned-out light bulbs in the bedroom and in the porch light. I arrived at the property after dark more than once and found the darkness disconcerting. I hope the host invests some time and effort in the property because it could be a marvelous hideaway if it were taken care of.

As I just read this alarming review; I phoned the current renter who has been there for several days. The current renter said that all of the lights that were mentioned, worked; as well as both coffee machines. The comments of this dissatisfied renter are extremely inaccurate & totally inconsistent with all other reviews.

My husband and I stayed here for our 5th wedding anniversary. It was the perfect little home for a night. The hot tub was the best part and it feels like you’re surrounded by nature even in a neighborhood. Highly recommend.

Thick Perfume and Absentee Host
I was glad to check out and won’t be returning, although there are quite a few things about this property that are nice and the reasons I booked five nights. The downside was the poor air quality on account of perfuming the linens to reek and the impertinence of the hosts to where I just gave up and hopes for the days to pass quickly. What I had wanted from this listing were the sitting areas, the kitchen, and the neighborhood, and all of those features were good. It’s incredibly quiet aside from a few ferocious cat fights (those people should keep their pets inside at night!). I didn’t sleep well because the perfume was so overpowering. I had brought my own sheets and it soaked into the sheets and all the way through to my bedclothes too. Someone who smokes or has dogs might like this okay. I didn’t notice anything like stains or foul odors to cover over, I am assuming the owners just love intense perfume. But the owner is absentee in a different time zone and preoccupied with walks on the beach. You can call anytime (text is not an option) but be prepared for a lengthy discourse with no resolution. Yes there is someone local but she is managing a nursing unit and has meetings and long hours you will have to hear about if you have a request. The owner said she was making a special trip to Whole Foods to buy me special detergent but that was made up, I supplied some non toxic detergents but got back linens still steeped in perfumes. And when the internet was down initially I was supposed to do the trouble shooting myself. I asked to resolve in the morning but got calls that woke me up and so much lengthiness. The owner does not seem to acknowledge that the occupant is paying a good rate for the amenities and perhaps they don’t have time to run a VRBO. I had stopped staying at Novato Days Inn which is convenient to my work because they often has problems with the hot water boiler, but I was so happy when I finally checked out of this place and went back to Days Inn. I had told the local person they hotels had stopped using chemical perfumes twenty years ago, and particularly in the Bay Area natural living is a norm, and she answered “This isn’t a hotel.” Maybe it was a language barrier but anyways, there are hotels and I will be most glad to stay in one. What I liked least was having to go to the laundromat late at night to rewash my sheets and one blanket in a dark deserted shopping plaza.

Much effort by 2 people was done to help this traveler. As it was apparent that she is environmentally sensitive to cleaning solutions, washing detergents & soaps, that the traveler knowing their condition, should do what is necessary for themselves & not leave that burden on the host. All of the linens were re-washed using the special detergent that was provide by the guest but, she was still unsatisfied.

Gorgeous open clean light place! Owner didn’t sound very friendly when we first spoke on phone but was very understanding about my dog barking one morning (I realize I forgot to bring his crate & blanket to cover it in! So my fault). So overall very good.
