Sanctuary of Santa Luzia

The Church of Santa Lucia, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ, is located on the hill of the same name in the city of Viana do Castelo. The church was built on the site of a small medieval chapel, known as a pilgrimage site for people with eye diseases. The construction of the temple lasted from 1904 to 1959. The eclectic-style Miguel Ventura Terra project combines neo-romanticism, neo-Gothic and Byzantine architecture. It is generally accepted that the architect was inspired by the forms of the Sacre Coeur Basilica in Paris. To the foot of the church at a height of 195 meters above sea level there is a line of a funicular built in 1923. Tourists can take the elevator to the observation deck under the very dome of the church. A panoramic view of the Lima River valley, mountains and the Atlantic Ocean opens from the platform. In 1927, National Geographic magazine named this species the third most beautiful in the world.

Gosh, best view of Viana from up there. Worth a drive or hike up.

Perfect Stay in the Heart of Porto! I had a fantastic stay at this apartment and cannot recommend it enough. Here are a few reasons why this is the perfect base for your trip: Unbeatable Location: You are right in the center of everything! It is directly across from the iconic Bolhão Market and surrounded by several grocery stores, making it incredibly easy to grab fresh food or supplies. Ultimate Convenience: The Bolhão Metro station entrance is literally just outside the main door. This made my trip to and from the airport completely stress-free. Spotless Interiors: Whoever is cleaning these apartments deserves a medal! It was exceptionally clean and well-maintained. Great Amenities: The kitchenette is fully stocked with all the cooking essentials you might need, and having a Nespresso machine for a quick morning coffee was a wonderful touch. Proactive Service: The reception desk is very attentive and constantly checks in to ensure you have everything you need. Don’t be surprised when you receive a WhatsApp message before and during your stay—they are just being helpful! Overall, a 10/10 experience.
