A Perfect Romantic Getaway in one of the countries most magical cities!!
The 1869 original Carriage House is a free standing cottage behind the main house with its own private entrance off the lane/alley.

It is located on the 2nd floor over the garage like all original carriage houses in Savannah, so there is a flight of stairs to get to the 2nd floor home.
The carriage house is where the livery driver lived in the 1800s above the horses and carriages he cared for. The Wedding Cake Carriage House comes with a highly coveted garage parking space.

The unusual design is evocative of a “Manhattan loft” set in a historic 1869 carriage house. This surprise blending of original 1920 - 1940 art deco furnishings and many antique elements creates a fun, casual ambiance.
The open and airy open concept living space showcases an entire wall of frosted artist windows, thus flooding the house with natural light.

The bedroom with king bed and TV is adjacent to the alluring bathroom with luxurious features such as 6 foot air tub and separate marble shower. The complete kitchen provides everything you need to whip up a Southern style meal or just grab toast and coffee on the way out your door to take in the cities historical sights that you are just steps out your door!

This reservation includes one private, garage parking space.

Guest may use the walled courtyard although it is shared with guests in the Main House.

There is a washer/dryer in the garage for you to use during your stay.

Maximum occupancy is 2 people, including infants & children.
Minimum age to reserve is 25 years old, no exceptions.
No pets or smoking.

  • Designed by John S. Norris for General Hugh Weedon Mercer, construction of the house began in 1860. Construction was interrupted by the American Civil War, and finally completed around 1868 by the new owner, John Wilder. Before Hansford's death, as retold in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, the house had already been the scene of two deaths. In 1913, a previous owner tripped over the second floor banister, fractured his hip, and suffered a concussion, dying three days later. In 1964, a boy chasing pigeons on the roof fell over the edge and impaled himself on the iron fence below.

Great romantic get-a-way

The carriage house was very nice, well-maintained, and stocked with all the basic necessities. Having the garage for parking our car and the jetted tub for soothing our muscles after long walks were great bonuses!

Our apartment was spacious and comfortable and very clean. Kitchen was well stocked. Location in the historic district was wonderful and very walkable to everything. Good security and parking. We were very satisfied and would stay there again.

Great location in Savannah

We left our car in the garage of this carriage house (included in stay) and therefore didn’t have to deal with parking elsewhere. Perfect location to walk everywhere we wanted.

Fabulous Weekend Getaway

Fabulous weekend getaway in Savannah! The carriage house is an optimal location - walkable to many restaurants, shops, cafes. The neighborhood is quiet at night for a good night's rest. If you're driving or renting a car, the garage was a super convenient amenoty. We would stay here again

Great Location

Great location, left car parked in garage and walked every where and used hop on hop off trolly one of our days. Understood from previous reviews that it was an upstairs unit and the stairs were a pain for our luggage but otherwise ok. Host very easy to deal with. Would stay here again if back in Savannah.

The location was perfect! We were able to walk about the city and could easily stop back at our place. The accommodations were great as well. The garage parking was a bit tricky as it’s a rather small parking space (which is understandable knowing the history of the building) and it’s in an alley. We figured it out!

Came down for engagement, wonderful place to stay at. Super clean and very comfortable, if you're wanting to sit around and watch tv might not be the best for you, but it's lovely if you're wanting a relaxing vacation with easy walks to historic Savannah

A Great Stay

We would strongly recommend this property. It was perfect for two, with the added benefit of great parking and a truly excellent location. We could walk everywhere we needed to go. It was exactly as presented. The bed was comfortable, and it was very clean.

Our bedroom was hot and we had difficulty sleeping due to the temperature. We could not adjust thermostat.Due to narrow, steep, and long staircase, not the best place for individuals with difficulties climbing stairs.Location was great and rooms were clean.

Downtown Gem!

Overall this was a perfect get away for us. We loved the area as it was in the historic part of town close to several of the parks and venues. Only issue was the comfort of the sofa and the construction noise from the neighbors!

Two nights in historic Savannah

This one bedroom apartment is a wonderful space in the historic district within walking distance to many restaurants, shops and gardens. The apartment is well appointed and quite clean. The reason for the four star rating is the failure of the WiFi for our entire stay. When that is addressed, it deserves five stars.

Historic Heaven

This one bedroom apartment has so much historic charm. It is a former carriage house and retains the feel of old Savannah while being beautifully appointed with all the modern luxuries. It is centrally located in the historic district and is an easy walking distance from all historic Savannah has to offer. We loved it!

Central in Savannah

Lovely property. GREAT location. Walk to everything. THe only heads-up is access to the garage is tight Savannah's lanes are narrow. We were in a Sentra and it took some maneuvering. There is evidence at the entrance of others not as deft. Don't try it with an SUV!

Property was as presented on VRBO. Very comfortable. Great shower. Centrally located in historic district. One designated parking in garage. If you have a choice between driving full size truck or midsize vehicle, drive the midsize vehicle. Not sure truck would fit. Highly recommend this property.

Great Location with Garage

Nice Carriage House apartment above garage. Perfect location for walking around Savannah, with many restaurants and sites within easy walking distance. Apartment was nicely furnished with everything you need and the bed was comfortable. Was missing a smoke/carbon monoxide monitor though which needs to be addressed by management. Garage was a huge plus.
