Charming 1940 Ballard House

This sweet one BDRM house in Ballard is full of eclectic antiques and period charm. It has a firm Beautyrest Black king size bed with a memoryfoam topper, a lovely yard and garden, and it is perfect for quiet, mature visitors. The kitchen is stocked full of everything you would need to make a fabulous meal during your stay. This is cozy house that sits up off the street (stairs to entrance) with a large backyard oasis.

Please note: there is a totally separate mother-in-law apartment (also a vacation rental) located downstairs. To honor my commitment to my downstairs guests, this listing is suitable for quiet, mature and respectful guests only. It's perfect for those who are looking for charming, comfortable and low-key accommodations or who plan to be out and about a lot. It is NOT conducive to those looking to entertain or have a lively time of it in their temporary home away from home.

Guests have exclusive use of the backyard. There is street parking out front, so while there isn't a dedicated parking space for you, there is usually street parking available either directly out front or very nearby.

NEIGHBORHOOD:
The apartment is located in the lovely and quiet area of Whittier Heights in Ballard, situated between three great neighborhoods: downtown Ballard, Phinney Ridge and Greenwood and close to Fremont. The apartment is within a lovely stroll to award winning restaurants, bars, cafes, bakeries and delis on 70th Street and 65th Street.

I am four blocks from Delancey's (amazing pizza), Essex, Rosselini Bakery and Take 5 Urban Market. All voted top restaurants and bars. You can even take cooking classes at the Pantry at Delancey (but you must book early because they sell out!). It is a quick jaunt by bike or car to the Ballard Market (a really great grocery store), PCC, Met Market, Safeway and Trader Joe's. Greenlake is a mile away. If you are a runner, walker or blader, you'll probably want to check it out! The Woodland Park Zoo is also close by and Discovery Park and Golden Gardens are also exquisite places to check out and not a far drive.

GETTING AROUND
There is free street parking directly out front. Lime Bikes app rentals, Uber/Lyft are all easy rideshare options. I am 4 blocks to the #28 bus and about 6 blocks from the Rapid Ride D line. Both buses go downtown.

Cute, querky, perfect for Ballard

Great place for one or two people visiting Ballard. The decor is ... interesting. Shannon is a first class host; responded quickly to all our questions. Will definitely keep this on the list of places to look for when we return. Kevin & Sybil

Unique and fun home in Ballard

When we rented this house in Ballard, we didn't expect it to be one of the things we most enjoyed about our visit, but it was. If you are tired of rentals decorated with IKEA furniture, stay here. The owner has a strong creative talent that she used to decorate this home. We enjoyed playing the LPs while also playing Scrabble and Clue games in the 50s style living room. The house was clean, the bed very comfortable and the kitchen well equipped. The neighborhood was quiet, but close to restaurants and shops. The owner gives extensive information on places to eat. Stay here in Seattle. It's fun!

Overpriced

Overpriced compared to the basic VRBO's we have used in the area. Not enough lighting. East facing window without shades. No microwave, television, or radio.

Clean, quiet, all the amenities

Beautiful property, attentive owner, great location. I would highly recommend staying here. Shannon has all the amenities and a very comfortable and pretty home. My father and his girlfriend stayed for my wedding and absolutely loved it. Thanks for giving them a home away from home!

Adorable older house in Ballard

The house was very cute! Host was very organized and provided lots of information up front. We were always able to find a parking spot right in front of the house. Bathroom has a great shower head, lots of towels, a hair dryer, and all traveling needs. Kitchen has just about everything you could need, other than a microwave. Bed was super soft and had great linens. The living room has lots of fun antiques, books, games, records, and more. Even though the house is old, it is very cute and has several upgrades, such as a smart thermostat. It was perfect for my husband and I to stay for a few days!

Memory Lane

My wife and I recently stayed at Shannon's house and had a very nice experience. We were visiting our daughter, her husband, and our new 4 month old granddaughter in Ballard. If you've never done Ballard, put it on your list. This place provided a little oasis for us to decompress after babysitting all day. You can tell from the pictures that this is a museum of articles from the 40s-70s so we had a little walk down memory lane. The place is clean. Parking was never a problem. Comfortable king size bed. Kitchen was fine although we really never used it. The only criticism that I have is that the bedroom could use better lighting for reading, could use some window blinds, and a coffee maker. Bottom line-Fun place.

Seattle for the holidays

Charming house. The bed and linens are the highlight of this property. We had a great nights sleep every night. The neighbor is very quiet (and we were there on NYE!). Found a parking spot on the street every time we returned but never in front of the house and no more than seven cars away. Had a great time playing records and playing scrabble. Walked to coffee a few mornings. The kitchen has everything you should need while on vacation. Bathroom has a surplus of towels! And the shower is nice and has plenty of hot water. The house does not have a TV, didn't know that until we got there. Did see it noted in one review after we got home. We are not TV people at all, we are radio people. With no tv or radio we missed keeping up with the world while drinking our coffee in the morning and getting ready for the day. Wi-Fi was easy to access and had no problems with speed. The seating and lighting is a little too kitsche-y for reading in this peaceful house. The back garden looks charming even in the wintertime.

A great place to stay.

The apartment was lovely and the many wonderful and thoughtful touches supplied by Shannon are too numerous to mention. Being Seattle we really appreciated the umbrella and robes as well as the well appointed and well supplied kitchen and surplus of towels. Everything was clean and comfortable with plenty of room. The backyard was also very nice when the weather cooperates. Nearby restaurants in Ballard were plentiful and excellent. The kitchen had condiments and equipment so we could cook some meals at home. Shannon even supplied lots of very good coffee and it was great to sit in the morning and have a cup. We will certainly stay here again next time we come to Seattle.

Very Peaceful

This home was very clean and well located to public transportation and great eating establishments. We enjoyed the vintage record albums and furniture. The owner left chocolates and awesome ginger chews as we felt welcome from the get go. Coffee was ground and ready for brew in the mornings as well. Nights were very quiet with bedroom window open and great breezes. The shower was more than functional and clean with ample linens. The owner provided us fantastic restaurant choices which we took full advantage of. Buses are within a 10 minute walk away. I would highly suggest this peaceful place to explore Seattle which was pleasantly filled with some of the most friendly people we have met in the world!

Lovely and incredibly comfortable

I could not have had a better place to call "home" for 10 days. Clean, comfortable... and the best sheets ever. The kitchen was well-appointed: plenty of cabinet staples, condiments in the fridge, flake salt(!), and the owner left coffee supplies and fresh eggs from her neighbor. Parking situation was great, well-located and lots of great shops/restaurants within walking distance. I used to live nearby, so it was nice to find a rental in my old neighborhood so I could visit friends and old haunts. Thanks again!

Great space, facilities and garden

This was the second time we have stayed here, last time in the downstairs apartment. Upstairs is more spacious, brighter and has access to a lovely sunny garden. The apartment is very well equipped, clean and the bed is extremely comfortable. Shannon is a very accommodating host and we will book up again next time we visit our family in Ballard.

Cute, kitsch stay in a lovely part of Seattle

We had a fantastic stay in this mid-century gem! Everything that we needed for a fantastic trip was provided for. The apartment was quiet, clean and nicely presented, and close to lots of shops and farmer's markets. Our host was more than accommodating, going out of her way to make sure we had an enjoyable stay. You'll particularly enjoy yourself if you love a game of Yatzee and listening to old records.

All the comforts of home!

I normally dont write reviews but I had to take the time for this place, because we absolutely loved everything about it! The house was SUPER CLEAN and cozy and supplied with plenty of towels, as well as, other little things you might need. The bed was amazingly comfortable. The owner was increadble friendly, accomidating, helpful and welcoming. The neiborhood was peaceful with a fabulous Honore Artisian Bakery and little adult pizza joint right next to the bakery, with huge selection of craft cocktails, all less that 2 blocks away. We went to that bakery almost every morning for a quiche, coffee, and pastry, everything was soooooo good! Only a short 5 min drive from the heart of Ballard with plenty of food and fun options. Also went to an amazingly friendly and welcoming hot yoga spot in the mornings, Shakti Vinyasa Yoga, which was also a quick 5 min drive. I would highlky reccomend this rental to anyone I know, and only hope we get the chance to stay there again during our next extended visit to Seattle!

A very cozy, welcoming, and clean little house

This little house is lovely and cozy. It is very clean, warm, and comfortable. My husband would give it 4.5 stars because there is no TV, but I truly welcomed the peace and quiet. It also had several hospitality details like milk in the fridge, coffee and very good candy. I definitely would rent it again.

Absolutely perfect - we'll be back!

The listing description was accurate and the booklet created by the owner was an excellent resource guide to assist in our dining and sightseeing adventures. The property was spotless and well maintained. The extra linens were in ample supply and the on street parking was excellent! I think we visited all of the deli and restaurants we could so we had the opportunity to leisurely walk through the quiet and safe neighborhood. We loved the Woodland Park Zoo as we entertained our grand kids on a couple of our sunny afternoons. The king size bed was so comfortable - we didn't want to leave. If you have the opportunity to stay in this charming Ballard Home, you won't be disappointed. The customer service was excellent in fact Shannon provided for things we didn't know we would want, she's that good! She made the stay so enjoyable and we are already planning our next stay. One final note - make sure you have time to visit the Take 5 deli for custom made sandwiches and salads, Delancey pizza and salad (the best) and Honore Bakery - we ordered some to take home. The Zoo was our favorite but the Ballard Locks was unforgettable! I have already recommended this vacation spot to all of my friends and family...
