"Alvøen is the site one of Norway’s oldest industrial communities and one of the best preserved industrial locations. In 1626, King Christian IV of Denmarkgranted the right to establish a gunpowder mill on the site. The mill was destroyed by fire in 1733, but rebuilt. Alvøen Manor and the factory were opened as a museum (Alvøen Hovedbygning) in 1983, as a branch of the West Norway Museum of Decorative Art. It is now[when?] managed by the Bergen City Museum. "Excellent location! So easy to get to from airport (take light rail to byparken, walk 2 blocks). So easy to get to cruise ports, too. Can walk easily with luggage (even in the snow). Staff was wonderful! I had a few requests, ALL of which were met! I was extremely grateful for that. Kitchen with refrigerator is wonderful. Separate bedroom is great. Cute window configuration on top floors. Thank you for such a wonderful experience! Customer Service means EVERYTHING! You met all of my needs, and I am so appreciative! "

"Unbeatable location for a short stay. Our family room had a view of the harbour, Bryggen & Fløyen. And we could easily walk to all. Great transport links nearby, too. The breakfast was great. We could fill up to keep us going all day. The staff was warm and welcoming. We even availed of the cozy, if somewhat small, bar/laounge in the evenings with its open fire. Not the first Scandic I've stayed in and not the last. "
