Nestled in a valley surrounded by rolling hills, Sharon Springs is among New York’s most picturesque hidden treasures. This charming village is near stunning scenery, with rivers and canals converging. Experience its most prominent feature, the natural sulphur springs that made the village popular among Americans in the 1800s.

The village has a fascinating history, intertwined with stories of settlers and indigenous Iroquois Native Americans who used the springs for healing properties. Relax for a day at the Spring House Spa, which continues the village’s traditions of pampering. Get a facial and enjoy this first-class spa resort in the laid-back setting. Notice the mild smell of sulphur in the air as you move through the village.

The reality series about novice farmers, The Fabulous Beekman Boys, is filmed in Sharon Springs. Explore the Beekman Farm and peruse the shop.

Learn about the village’s history at the Sharon Springs Museum, an intriguing former schoolhouse with interesting displays about the baths. In the historical district of the town, look for 167 buildings that are part of the water spa past. Discover intriguing 19th-century structures, such as the Magnesia Temple, the Lower Bath House and the Inhalation Bath House.

Stroll through the village centre to see its eclectic array of one-of-a-kind shops and restaurants. Join community events during annual festivals, such as May’s Garden Party and September’s Harvest Festival.

The Sharon Springs name derives from the Connecticut hometown of the village’s first new settlers. Later, inhabitants of this New York village founded another Sharon Springs in Kansas.

The village is in Schoharie County in eastern New York State. It is just northwest of the town of Sharon, 50 miles (80 kilometres) west of Albany. Drive north for 180 miles (290 kilometres) from New York City to reach the charming hamlet.

The area experiences hot summers and cold and snowy winters. The light smell of sulphur lets you know you have arrived in the green and scenic village of Sharon Springs.
