Cabin near Snowshoe

"My spouse and I are part of a group of couples who have been renting a cabin for a long weekend getaway every summer for the past 6 years, and this spot fit the bill for having plenty of space and allowing pets since one of the couples wanted to be able to bring their dog along this time. The cabin is in a quiet and peaceful spot and is spacious while still retaining a cozy atmosphere at the same time. Since each couple takes turns cooking meals for the rest of the group, we really appreciated having access to a second full fridge in the laundry room. The basement wet bar made for a great coffee station that folks could use in the morning while staying out of the way of the cooks on duty while they made breakfast in the main floor kitchen. There were some opportunities to improve the experience, however, such as addressing a missing wheel on the kitchen island, an overflowing grease trap in the outdoor grill, a loose/broken toilet seat in one of the main floor bathrooms and a shower faucet that would not turn all the way off in the other main floor bathroom, a missing shower head in the basement bathroom, the cleanliness of the bathroom fixtures in general, expired smoke detectors, and a lack of potholders, kitchen towels and trash bags. One couple ended up buying some and leaving them in the house for future guests. Overall the stay was fine, but the little details can really make the difference between a good stay and a great one."
Private Mountain View Alpine A-Frame 8 miles to Snowshoe

"This small cabin is new, beautiful and super clean. The furniture includes used and vintage pieces that give it the just-right homey feel.Downsides to new: The owner has not yet benefitted from renter feedback. It lacks places to put one’s things (e.g. dry good food or to set out a suitcase upstairs, or even a spot in the upstairs bathroom for a change of clothing or your toiletries. Oops, no mirror up there!) It doesn't currently have left-behind spices - only salt and pepper. But there is coffee! There is no “welcome” book and house quirks could be explained. (The cold water runs super hot at first; the shower water temperature adjustment was a mystery.) The cabin is SMALL. The “feet” of the queen-size beds in the lower bedrooms are so close to the wall that all but the most gifted yoga expert will have to lean on the bed for support to get around, and a corner bookshelf right at shoulder level makes getting in the far side even more challenging. Fortunately, we were a party of three and two slept in the upstairs loft, which was warm but not intolerable. The view from the back porch is wonderful. It will be breathtaking in the fall. The chairs are all Adirondack - not best without “natural padding” or for those who have difficulty getting up from a low chair.The roads are gravel but in good condition and stayed that way even after heavy rain.Note: the signs that point the way, but they are hard to see. When the GPS stops helping, go left."

"My family had the best time unplugging and reconnecting. We loved that we could open windows, and the deck doors, to enjoy the beautiful weather we had. The kitchen provided more than we needed, and our family loved the endless fun the rec room offered!We visited the Highland Scenic Highway which I couldn't recommend more. Although, it was cloudy, we were able to see a gorgeous sunset from the peak just a couple minutes from the cabin!"

"The property was well maintained and clean. It was in a great area deep in the mountains but not too far from the local gas station and dollar general. Overall had a fantastic time and would recommend to others. I’m sure it’s even better in the wintertime for skiing."

"Enjoyed our stay. We would do not more than 3 days next time, as we like to cook. We picked up a skillet at a thrift store so we could cook grilled cheese and scrambled eggs on the grill. They do have a nice toaster for breakfast. Beautiful setting."
