Elegant country retreat near Spring Green w expansive views of Driftless Region

The Glass House of Spring Green is an architectural gem set along a ridge of native prairie grasses and oak woods, with an exceptional view of the Driftless Area hills. Built in 1984, it was enrolled in the Driftless Area Land Conservancy, assuring that its native landscape will be maintained in perpetuity. Its parklike setting assures a private, peaceful retreat.

Prairie plants and native trees dominate the 24 acres near the house and mowed paths give access for birding, botanizing, picnicking, snowshoeing and skiing. A large deck with ample seating faces the distant hills and vivid sunsets. Inside an extensive library offers reading for all tastes, from history and nature to fiction and photography.

A single story, 2,300 sq ft home, the 3 bedroom and 2 baths stretch along a hallway leading from the central space. A glass wall brings the outside in to the central space. The 3 bedrooms include 1 king, 1 queen and 1 twin bed set up, all with easy access to one of the 2 bathrooms. The kitchen is fully equipped to please even the best gourmet cook.

Nearby outdoor recreation includes the Wisconsin River and Governor Dodge State Park for paddling, swimming and hiking. American Players Theatre, Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin, the Spring Green Art Fair and many music venues are within a 15 minute drive. The House on the Rock is less than a mile away and two golf courses are close by.

The easy-access layout includes ample parking and a large, walk-in tiled shower in the main bathroom. WiFi and Satellite TV service is reliable. The geothermal heating and cooling system is both comfortable and environmentally friendly year-round.

It is well suited for larger outdoor events, by special arrangements with additional fees.

Beautiful Home and Property

This was my first visit to the Driftless Region, the Glass House, and the American Players Theatre (which is what brought us to the area). The Glass House was the perfect fit and location for my husband, daughter, son-in-law, and in-laws to relax and to see all the local attractions. We had a blast! The Glass House was beautiful and we were all very comfortable. It felt like home. I have no reservations about recommending the Glass House and we will definitely return. A special Thank You to Barbara, our host, who was so kind and responsive to all of our needs.

Stunning views of Wi bluffs surrounded by prairie grassland.

Evening night sky filled with view of the constellations and bright stars. Comfortable large outdoor spaces on multiple decks with plenty of seating and entertaining Incredible outdoor views can also be seen from indoor living space.

APT weekend, almost

We booked in anticipation of seeing a couple of APT productions. The weekend was uncomfortably hot for outdoor theater. Fortunately, the Glass House was fantastic. A very comfortable, beautiful home located in a gorgeous setting. The view from the back deck was stunning . We hope to stay here again.

Lovely Weekend at the Glass House!

Long time women friends enjoyed our weekend at the Glass House. The driftless area of WI is beautiful. We had great sunny fall weather. It only rained at night. We chose to stay at the house for dinner both Friday and Saturday nights and sat on the deck and took in the gorgeous view, yakked, watched a movie, lounged. Very comfortable, beautiful home. I’d love to return in the winter!

Great House in Open, Natural Setting

My family and I stayed here over a long weekend so we can visit some local attractions, including Cave of the Mounds. The house was great - 3 bedrooms, including a "kid's room" with 2 twin beds. It was a clean, long ranch house with one entire wall consisting of windows looking out to the back, which was all nature. A short walk out the back leads to a cliff with beautiful views of the neighboring hills and valleys. We saw turkeys each morning. The host, Barbara, was very easy to communicate with and she even mailed me an item I left at the house. All in all, great place in a beautiful country setting in the driftless region - we will come back.

This is a fantastic property. The check-in was super easy. Barbara was very responsive to our questions and needs.The kitchen had everything we needed, including a crockpot which was added upon request.The view from the deck was delightful. We watched the fire flies every night.

We love staying at the Glass House

We so appreciate the beautiful natural setting and being some distance (1/4 mile) from the road. It's absolutely idyllic. In the morning, we drank our tea on the deck & then would walk down the path to the Tea House to enjoy the view; listening to the bird calls, watching the rabbits hop off into the wildflowers & catching sight of an elusive chipmunk. It was sheer joy for us city dwellers. Also, the house is a short drive to Spring Green. This visit we took in A Midsummer Night's Dream at the American Players Theater - sheer magic! Last summer we scheduled a tour at Taliesin and that was also very special.

Beautiful!

The Glass House was beautiful! Not only was the house full of Frank Lloyd Wright style charm, it was also the cleanest property we have ever visited. The mornings started with coffee on the deck, looking at the view, and ended with breath- taking sunsets and gazing at thousands of stars. The property was great for peaceful walks to look at nature, and the house had everything we wanted. There were even plenty of blankets to use because I am allergic to down comforters. Barbara answered our questions promptly and was so pleasant in all communications. We just got home, and have already talked about planning a return visit.

Driftless Gem

My wife and I came out here for a relaxing getaway to appreciate the natural beauty of the driftless area, and this property did not disappoint. Very pastoral and serene, surrounded by lush green hills and beautiful native prairies, not to mention the stunning sunsets you get off the back deck! Very lovely prairie style home that lacked for nothing. Definitely make sure you visit Reunion restaurant in Spring Green for BBQ!

The Perfect Getaway

Thoroughly enjoyed the home and the surroundings.Unfortunately, because we were on the go so much we really didn't have time to go exploring, but I would have liked to. Didn't get down to the Tea House. Maybe next time!

Great location for seeing wildlife. We were even lucky enough to see a bobcat. Property was well off the road and seemed like you were living on "Little House on the Prairie." House was exactly as described, and we couldn't have asked for a better location to see House on the Rock and Cave of the Mounds. Enjoyed are family time together and will definitely be back.

Blending family getaway
