— WELCOME TO CALDWELL'S ATTIC! —

This airy and light-filled 3rd floor apartment is a unique stay with plenty of historic charm and comfort, right in the middle of historic downtown Staunton, VA.

The attic apartment spans the majority of the 3rd garret or "attic" floor of Caldwell House. Owing to its original role housing the mansion's live-in staff, the apartment enjoys its own dedicated stairway and is completely separate from the main house, with its own legal address.

ACCOMMODATION

This 1-Bedroom Apartment boats a King Bed and spacious bathroom. It is ideal for 1 or 2 Guests and is therefore advertised for that number. However, there is a Queen Pull-Out Sofa Bed, so the apartment could actually accommodate 3 or even 4 people in the right situation. If you're interested in having more than 2 people stay, please let us know and we'll discuss the possibility with you.

Caldwell's Attic has been fully renovated with all new electrical, plumbing, and HVAC, and boasts all new fixtures and appliances.

RENOVATION

This will be fifth historic building we’ve renovated in Staunton. We currently operate Newtown Retreat over in the Newtown Historic District, and this is our first listing on this side of town.

Caldwell House is one of several grand Victorian mansions designed by Staunton’s most renowned architect of the Guilded Age, TJ Collins, who designed close to 200 buildings in town.

Please note that while we just recently completed the renovation of the top floor, the remainder of the building is being renovated over the course of the coming several months. Please pardon the appearance of the exterior of Caldwell House while we complete this important work! There will not be construction going on during your stay; so no need for concern about noise.

ENTRY & ACCESS

*** PLEASE NOTE: The original Victorian door and stairway up to the apartment are narrow by today’s standards. Taking luggage up and down won’t be a problem, but it could be a bit more challenging than typical modern accommodations. Visitors who are OK with a bit of adventure and who appreciate historic charm should find such quirks unique and endearing rather than inconvenient. However, for travelers looking for a more contemporary experience, Caldwell’s Attic may not be the best fit. …We definitely want to make certain you’re happy with your experience! Please keep this in mind.

KITCHEN

All stainless steel appliances, including a full size fridge, glass top stove, dishwasher, and all the necessary equipment for daily food prep and dining.

LIVING ROOM / DEN

Large sectional sofa (pull-out sofa-bed), Amazon Fire smart TV.

BEDROOM

King size bed, large dresser, comfortable wingback chair, work station with desk and chair.

PARKING

Parking is available along Kalorama St. A Permit will be provided for weekday parking.

— Cleaning & Linens completely taken care of for you. We only ask that you leave the house reasonably neat and tidy at check-out. It's important to us that you enjoy your stay and leave all of the work to us!

— Consumables: We provide guests with starter quantities of all the basics, such as paper towels (extras under microwave), toilet paper (extras in laundry room), soaps, detergents, cooking spices, etc. We also provide locally roasted coffee. We are happy to provide additional quantities or items for our guests as needed at a reasonable cost.
