New Zealand State Highway 43 is also known as the Forgotten World Highway. Built on colonial horse trails formed in the late 19th century, the highway is remote and mysterious. The highway spans 149 km between Stratford and Taumarunui. There are hardly any services along the highway, and no gas pumps, but the views along the road as it climbs up and down three different mountain saddles are amazing!

Pleasant enough although there was a bagpipe band staying who all decided to practice in the car park which might have been nice but they weren't all playing the same piece of music! And then proceeded to all gather and chat till late in the night.
