Stayed in the suite as we had 6 people on this trip, including 2 younger children. Children thoroughly enjoyed the stay. Dining options were solid and most of the customers were local. This place specializes in hot spring baths, which are the main attraction. Most everything else will require a car to get around for.
The onsens were dated and not well maintained, and the ground floor indoor bath was quite dark and I was almost tripped off at the stair. The entire hotel was very spacious and most areas were clean and nice. But somehow everything felt a bit lacking something compared to most of its peer hotels like the garden maintenance or the staff friendliness/enthusiasm.
Property had a strong Japanese culture ambiance. Rooms were good but not modern. Bathrooms were dated. Onsen facilities were good. Good location to central bus station. Restaurant options limited and closed early by 7pm.
Terrible experience – not worth the price at all.
The hotel claims to have strict rules and policies, but when it comes to enforcing them, it’s honestly a joke. The noise levels were unbearable – you can hear every single footstep from the hallway, and if your room is near the elevator, prepare for a nightmare. It was impossible to relax or get any proper sleep.
The rooms are outdated, clearly not renovated in years, and there was a horrible smell that made the entire stay uncomfortable. For the price and the way this place is advertised, this was a huge disappointment. I definitely wouldn’t recommend it and won’t be returning.
Okuhida Hot Spring Hirayukan is conveniently located, just a short and easy walk from the Hirayu Onsen bus terminal. A small shop beside the ryokan sells snacks and drinks, which is useful especially in the quieter evenings.
Check in was smooth and the ryokan already had our Expedia reservations. As with most Japanese ryokan, copies of our passports were taken. We stayed in the Japanese Style Room, Sengakuso, Non Smoking (35 sqm). Footwear must be removed at the main lobby and changed to the in house slippers, in line with traditional ryokan customs.
Our room was located some distance away from the main lobby and required climbing two flights of stairs, with no lift access. There were no shower facilities in the room, which is typical for many traditional ryokan. The onsen baths are located in the main building, and the male and female bathing areas are rotated once a day.
Buffet dinner offered at Y4400 per person from 6pm. It was enjoyable and good value, with a wide selection including seafood. Each table is provided with two fuel stoves, and guests can choose between grilling, hotplate, or hotpot to cook the raw food.
A nice touch is the free ramen served at the main lobby from 10pm to 10.30pm, perfect for a light supper after a soak in the onsen.

Disliked: Staff & service, amenities
A very busy hotel and we were given a room on the 3rd floor and there is no lift between the 2nd and 3rd floor. My husband who is 73 years old had to carry our 3 big luggages up 16 steps without any help and down upon check out. We asked for help but we sensed the staff wasn’t that willing because they were busy attending to other check in guests.
Un excelente lugar lara relajarse, hay que tener respeto a las tradiciones y disfrutar al maximo la experiencia, es un onsen donde no se admiten tatuajes, hay que cubrirlos, pero vale completamente la pena
