Avoid.

Room full of insects as the netting is torn on most windows, our linen had cockroaches in, black mould on the walls, damp mattress and pillows, either the shower doesn't work or there is no hot water and the toilets don't flush. Fancy a dip in the pool? It's empty. Don't bother complaining to the manager, he isn't there and will ignore your emails. We visited the volcano and then got the F out of Tanna. We left a night early as we could not stand this place. Disappointing and a waste of money.

Terrible rooms and most certainly not worth money

The rooms are run down and the pool is cloudy the entire resort is totally run down . We could have stayed at Whitegrass for not much more . You should remove it from your site. The staff were the saving grace they were helpful friendly and very happy. But the rest was extremely poor. We will go back to Tanna . Won't be be staying there, not worth more than 60 dollars a night.

omg the most amazing staff ever......

ok where to start, we arrive at the lodge and were greeted with a complimentary drink each, we sat down to consume and were then greeted by Hugh the owner who then proceeded to shout us another drink. Hugh also arranged for his lovely wife Estalla to drive us into the best Kava Bar in Black man town. nothing from the staff at this resort was too much, A massive shout out to my two new sisters Mary and Marina, these ladies are amazing and will latterly sit down and talk to you like they have known you forever. The resort needs a little work after cyclone pam, the food menu and meals are limited and priced higher then some of the other resorts we visited on tanna. location is only about 15 min walk to black man town. if you book the volcano tour do it through this resort ( Perry and Marie Jeanne are also amazing and make you feel most welcome. we would stay at tanna lodge again for sure , mainly because of the staff and owner.

Disappointed

These buildings are in need of a general upgrade we were very disappointed when we arrived as the photographs on the website do not reflect the condition the lodge is in. We eventually achieved a Luke warm trickle of water from the shower after my husband replaced the gas bottle and then levered out a corroded battery from the hot water service attached to the wall .We found telephone contact with the lodge difficult.

Great place in a great spot, awesome food

Had a very relaxing time here. Very friendly, genuine staff, the beach out the front is interesting (especially if geology is your thing), had great discussions with Hugh, who is putting in an admirable effort developing the lodge with great cooperation with the locals. The food was surprisingly delicious, very professional. The volcano (an excursion which the lodge arranged for us) - my lord, what an experience. The only thing I might say was that dear old Prince needed a wash haha.

EXPLOITATION PERSONNEL

The Worst Resort I have ever seen !!

The resort was bad. The service was bad. The cleanliness was bad. The food was bad. The room was bad. Everything BAD!! Why I stated that everything was bad because the room was dirty. No Wi-Fi connection anywhere. The bathroom was dirty, no hot water for shower. The air-con didn't work. No sight-seeing. No room service. My family had a bad holiday there. If I go Tanna again, I won't choose Tanna Lodge.

Tanna Lodge

We loved our stay at Tanna Lodge, Stella and Hugh the owner's make you feel like old friends, they are warm down to earth, charming hosts. The staff are friendly and nothing is to much trouble. Would thoroughly recommend it, to those you luv and appreciate the rustic feel of a place and want to get to know the locals.

This hotel is not good and overrated.

I was at the hotel at the start of July 2015 in an Ocean view room. The hotel was badly maintained. In my opinion the rooms were in a worse state of repair than a 1 star back home. The shower didn't work so we had to get that fixed. The toilet barely worked. The shower recess was very dirty and mouldy. The walls had marks over them and needed a good paint. Other rooms had a refrigerator - ours didn't. The fan didn't have a wire front to prevent injury and was very dusty on top. There were no bedside tables or lights, just one room light (without a light fitting). The staff were really lovely though. Food was OK. I appreciate that Cyclone Pam had been through in March but this shouldn't affect the quality of the rooms as they weren't damaged.

Overlooking the Ocean

Very friendly staff, still repairing damage done by Cycloon Pam. Accomodation was basic but very expensive. Almost everything in Vanuatu is very expensive. Roof was leaking during rain. Nice swimming pool but no swimming Beach. Roads are very bumpy tracks with big potholes. There is some improvement on the way. Interesting how these people live there very simple life with washing there clothing and themselves in the creek. These people are poor but seems to be happy.

Good resort design

It is very unfortunate that Tanna remains very much still in recovery mode from the cyclone and this no doubt has impacted availability of all vegetables and fruits. The menu at Tanna Lodge was very restricted and if a stay is longer than a few nights, the food choice would get very boring. However this may have been cyclone affected. Delivery times for meals were slow. Staff were generally very friendly but often had to be reminded. Need to be sure that your communication is accurately received. However one mainly visits Tanna to Xperience the volcano and this Tanna Lodge arranged well. They provide own driver and vehicle for what is a very arduous trip to the volcano.

Friendly staff, wonderful view, amazing experience

We stayed only one night at Tanna Lodge, but they went out of their way to make our volcano experience a memorable one. We were met by our guide Ned at the airport and taken straight to the top of the volcano with a couple stops for the view and photos along the way. We were late getting back to the lodge but the kitchen was still open for us if we wanted dinner. Our room was quiet and simple. Only the sound of the ocean roar could be heard. The only things we could fault was that there was no air con or ceiling fans in our room, which made for a warm night. And the amount of insects around, which is no ones fault. Sitting under the fans in the restaurant was the only place for relief from them. Tanna Island and Mt Yasur was an amazing experience and one made only better by the lovely people we encountered there.

Beaucoup trop cher

L'hôtel est loin de tout. Les propriétaires son inexistants. Les sorties proposées sont hors de prix. Des réparations s'imposent (toilettes cassées, fuite d'eau...).

Nice place to stay on a remote and basic island.

Hugh and his staff are excellent and go out of their way for their guests. The lodge is a nice place to stay. The food is great and the rooms offer a decent level of comfort however they are a bit more basic than what I thought they would be. The volcano is an absolute must.

Very nice rustic stay.

My stay at Tanna Lodge was really good. Tanna is a very underdeveloped place so one cannot expect the same conditions as in Sydney, or even in Port Villa. The bungalow I stayed was quiet and clean, but very basic. The balcony looked out towards the black sand beach and in general the feel was very pleasant and rustic. The outside shower was a very nice touch. The staff was friendly and helpful. My only suggestion to the owners is to fix some of the mosquito nets in the bungalow. Saying that, I was not personally disturbed by mosquitoes or flies within the bungalow.

Nice stay at Tanna Lodge

Hugh and his staff are fabulous. Extremely helpful and friendly. The resort is on a lovely black sand beach where local kids come to play and you can swim in safe water. Tanna is a very basic place to visit. If you can get this into your head, you will appreciate the resort because it offers a lot. The food from the restaurant was really good. Not gormet but you would have to be crazy to expect that on an island like this. We really enjoyed staying at Tanna Lodge and would recommend it. It's not 5 star accommodation so don't expect luxury. You will get honest hospitality at a good place to stay on this remote island.

Lovely oasis on an exotic island

I visited with my adult daughter and we were made very welcome. The Lodge is about 20 minutes drive along bumpy roads from the airport. We were delighted to stop at the local market on the way there....truly a great experience seeing all the locals and their produce and handicrafts. The Lodge has good food, including delicious locally caught lobster, fish and curries. The lounge/ bar is very comfortable.

Everything taken care of

I took my two children to Tanna to see the volcano, yet we've come away with so much more. The wonderful staff at Tanna Lodge took care of all our needs, arranging our tours and eliminating the need for VT as we could charge tours to our room and pay by credit card at the end of our stay. We were able to experience a more traditional Vanuatu while still enjoying the comforts of home. I'd go back to Tanna Island in heartbeat and would happily stay at Tanna Lodge again. Besides an experience of a life time to the volcano I'd recommend a swim in the amazing Blue Cave and a visit to a Cultural Village which you'll want to take some VT with you to purchase local handicrafts.
