The Duke of Marlborough Hotel

"Staying at the Duke is an amazing experience. One of New Zealand’s oldest pubs on the beachfront in one of New Zealand’s oldest town. Well maintained and spotless rooms, ours had a great balcony - just the place for a G&T - before a leisurely dinner on the terrace looking out directly over the bay - with an excellent food and wine menu. Helpful, knowledgeable staff and great transport options add to the experience - free parking behind the pub or frequent passengers ferry services across the bay from Paihia. And all pretty affordable given the venue and the location."

"The hotel was conveniently located to Paihia Wharf and nearby shops/restaurants. The rooms were fairly spacious. There was a laundry room that we used, but it could use another set of washer and dryer. Parking was free. There is a game room with an uneven foosball table, a giant Jenga puzzle, a table tennis table with rackets and ball you shared with foosball, a giant Connect 4, and a corn hole board with sacks. The staff was very helpful and friendly."

"Wow ! We unwound and walked and watched the waves. All four seasons during our stay. Spectacular ocean views in both directions and outstanding warmth and shelter from cold or windy conditions. And a shady backyard for the hottest weather too. A real gem of a place and close to some excellent restaurants and historic sites in nearby Russell. The property is immaculately manicured and so clean. So many spaces to enjoy inside and out and a range of beaches literally on the doorstep."

"Wow what a fabulous stay! The house is more gorgeous than the pictures and the view is out of this world. Clive has thought of everything to make the stay perfect. Seriously I have never stayed in a better equipped house. The things that are often lacking like paper towels, napkins, spices, oils and such were included but also nice wooden hangers, beach towels, a blender, nice pans, ice, a sodastream!, placemats, even masks and covid tests! Really comfy beds, furniture, everything. We stayed 12 nights and then lovely Lana came to clean up and change linens after a few nights which was wonderful. I chose this spot for a significant birthday and anniversary celebration and so glad I did. It was perfect and we can’t wait to come back. Russell is a gem! Thank you Clive!"

"This place had amazing views & great location, I would recommend this place to people, except I would be telling them that the balcony/deck is quiet dangerous especially for children as balustrade is very low & wonky you wouldn’t want to lean on it & fall as is quiet a drop, also carpet should be replaced with hard flooring as it smells quiet musty! But otherwise a great place 😊"
