"The stove, fridge and countertop definitely needed to be deep cleaned. You could tell it wasn’t cleaned at all. The glass railing going up and down the stairs looked very dirty. You could see all the little kids and everyone’s finger prints. We saw also be little bugs on the walls by the headboard and my brother in law got bitten by somebody type of bugs on the bed. The room that is next to the pool is very dangerous especially after turning on the AC and the AC leaking water right by the door....

Hotel Solar de las Animas

8/10 Good

"Good location in the main square, allowing easy access to all local facilities eg restaurants, bars and tours. Restaurant service, food and decor (traditional) were really lovely. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Rooftop bar was also lovely. Great views over both Tequila and out to the hills. Staff were great and also very friendly and helpful. Had a good massage in the spa, much needed after lots of travelling and moving around. Would recommend this hotel. Perhaps a little more expensive than others in the area (that’s a guess and not a fact) but I think it’s worth the extra."

"This hotel was extremely hard to find, with no proper signage and a remote hilltop location. We arrived around 9 p.m. and the place was completely abandoned.. despite claims online it was nearly full, we saw no other guests. The room was spacious but rundown, and the bathroom didn’t seem clean. Most importantly, we didn’t feel safe. The area is poorly lit and very isolated. Traveling with a child, we chose to leave within minutes and return to the city. Despite the $130 non-refundable cost.. We Didn’t Feel Safe Enough to Stay, Not worth the risk"

"We and friends had a 2 night stay . Day 1 no hot water in our room . Front desk did not know how to open room safe so we couldn’t use it . Front desk did not want to help us call a taxi and was very uninterested in her job. Very basic rooms with no bedside lamp for reading, just one ceiling bulb. Did not make our rooms up during our stay even though there were friendly cleaning staff so we had to go downstairs to get our own toilet paper. Very loud water pumps running several times during the day including at happy hour and bedtime . Free morning coffee was left all day and smelled burnt by dinner time. This could be a good hotel .It has a beautiful well kept garden but needs an infusion of fresh staff up front in the lobby and some updates to the rooms . Did have parking nearby but no loading zone so bags had to be dragged down the sidewalk for over a block. Group trip , none of us liked our rooms or our stay and will not be back . Definitely cannot recommend this place. "
