Just across the Broadwater from the Gold Coast in Queensland is South Stradbroke Island, one of only 15 sand based islands in the world, and home to Couran Cove Resort. This island getaway is made up of 1,800 acres of conservation park, so you know you’re walking into pristine nature. And it's one of the few places on the East Coast of Australia where you can see the sun rise in the east of the island and set on the west.

Sea World Resort & Water Park is a hotel and water park with a theme park right next door. Shooting astro at South Stradbroke Island over the weekend and the weather conditions couldn't have been better for capturing the Milky Way. I got this shot early in the evening as the Milky Way rose above the ocean and I thought I'd give the image some scale by standing on the small sand dune with a light.
