WARNING BEWARE OF ROOM 5 AND M5!! PLEASE, for the love of god, reconsider staying here. This was by far the worst hostel experience we had in Japan. The day we arrived they let us check in an hour early, which we thought was awesome. The room heavily smelt of bleach, so we left the bedroom window open. We left to go sightseeing for the entire day and came back late at night. It was a cold night, so the heaters had been turned on, enhancing the smell of mould. We were horrified. It’s hard to explain just how damp and mouldy this place smelt! We started really looking at the room and realised the shower had black mould growing in the silicone. From what we could tell, they had plastered the shower in cheap wall paper to hide how run down it truly was. When you poked some parts of the wall paper, it buckled inwards. It was around 11pm at this point, I was having a hard time sleeping, so I went to the service desk, Hoping, praying, they would have another room. The man managing the service desk acted shocked when I told him about the mould. How could you miss it?! I suggested for him to come take a look, so he followed me to the room. The man looked around the shower, pointing out the mould and poking the walls like we had. He tugged at the silicone in the shower and started to pull it up. Looking at the mould behind the silicone was nauseating so I left the bathroom. The man said he could not help us and that we had to wait till 7am to talk to the manager of sophiearth. I clos

As a last minute reservation since my Airbnb was small for the amount of people we booked for. I stumble upon this property, at first I wasn’t expecting nothing big. However upon first impression. This was the perfect size for person. This hotel allowed me to come sleep, than hit the street of Japan. This hotel is in prime location, everything is very walk able. Overall I love it. Will for sure look for posting when I come back to Japan

As expected of a 1 star
Not a great place to stay, more of a last resort short stay. Dirty, toilet leaked on the floor after every flush, shower drain didnt work effectively so the shower would flood with dirty water from the run down flooring and walls. Bugs were frequent and it felt risky just being in the beds. Dont be cheap; spend the extra cash and get a better place.

Great except the sewage smell
My brother and I stayed in a F lettered room. At first glance it looked ok. Had the bunk bed, shower, and toiled all in one room. The size didn’t bother me. However after coming back from being out smell started. I thought my brother just used the bathroom and made fun of him. Even tho he said he didn’t. Then the second night the smell was was still there. We swapped positions on the bunk and I 100% noticed the small coming from the side of the wall. It was covered with wood. But you could tell it was covering pipes. It’s not hard to figure out it was sewage pipes. I did make a comment they the rooms looked like renovated showers/bathrooms. I guess I was right. Other than the smell I could get passed anything. We didn’t complain because we were out most of the day. But I wouldn’t stay in that room again. I did get sick leaving. Not saying it was the room. But can’t rule it out either. Going back to Tokyo and my brother said don’t get a *hit room like before. He’s not picky. So even he wouldn’t stay again. I would stay at the hostel if I could pick another room. But beware of F room. The one in the left.

Good price and location
Great price, very friendly staff that can even help booking to transport to other cities. Convenient location in Korea town, with a lot of food around and walkable distance to central Shinjuku. Room is organized but towels weren't too clean, we just used our owns.

Great family room for a cheap price.
Simple accommodation for a simple price. We could fit a family of 4 in one room, with 2 trundle beds that packed up for more space during the day. Ignore the title. Comfort apartment, City View. The room didn't even have a window. Comfortable distance from Shinjuku Station and other notable locations. Washing machine and dryer available on site. Staff available to check in until 11pm. We had no complaints.

Very small bathroom. Shower tub area fine. Bedroom fine with cold ac. Middle room small. Very cozy. Didn’t spend much time on room. Couldn’t hang out unless sitting on the beds. No outside stuff. Steep stairs to 3 Ed floor. No elevator Did I say very small bathroom. Outhouse would have been bigger Great price for the location. Would stay again

Our room was on the 3rd floor so it was so difficult to take our luggage.the room was very small.the shower drainage is not working.there was no hotwater in the other washroom.there was a puddle of water in the entrance of our door.i will never recommend this place to anyone

Loved the location. The staff was helpful and friendly and check in/out was a breeze. The room and bathrooms were clean, hot water and microwave were easily accessible. Over all this was a great deal and I would consider staying again.

Good Enough for a Short Stay
We stayed at the Sophiearth Hostel over New Years. It's located in West Tokyo, in "Korea-town" with lots of restaurants and shops nearby. It's also just a station away from Shinjuku and close to Shibuya as well. Location wise it was fantastic especially because during New Years, a lot of restaurants and shops stayed open in those three areas. As for the actual hostel, the rooms were clean but small. It was just my friend and I staying in a room with two bunk beds so we used the two extra bottom beds for our luggage. It worked out okay. I can't imagine four people sharing the room even if that's how many it's intended for. To use the bathroom we had to go outside the building and enter the second building, which is inconvenient for midnight bathroom breaks, but otherwise fine. They did have an interesting scent though... Showers are okay, but two of them are in an unheated side building. You have to rent the towels for 200 Yen each. Expect to be cold until the water heats up. I would recommend for friends wanting to travel cheaply. Not for families. Staff spoke English fine.

In my opinion, this hotel was great to stay in. I only needed a place where to sleep it's all. I've had to share rooms with others; but they were all very respectful, they were also travelers. You have No where to secure your belongings, so your stuff is as safe as how honest your room mates are. Staff was very friendly. They went above and beyond to help me. I would only recommend this place is you're traveling with 4 to have the room to your self or if you travel light, and all you need is a bed and 4 walls, this is a good place.

There is a hostel near Higashi-Shinjuku Station. Close to the station. There is a little bit of trouble in finding, but very easy to find, get used to it. Booking room upgrades than me and I like it.

just the location is good and the stuff was helpful but the hotel is smelly and the rooms are so small and nothing in the room just bed and airconditoner ,even there us no towel in the room .I don't recommend this hotel to any one .

The staff were rude and unhelpful. The rooms were tiny, with no place to move. The walls are paper thin so you can hear EVERYTHING going on in the rooms around you. Don't expect to get any sleep at this hostel.

Very small room for 4!
We weren't expecting the Ritz, but our room was tiny! We had 4 of us in the room & it was extremely cramped - not much room on the 2 sides of the bed that weren't against the wall. On the upside it was easy to find & the neighbourhood had a great vibe, with plenty of food options.

Clean hostel in a great location
The hostel is in a great location, within walking distance of Golden Gai (nightlife area) and the Red Light District, which really isn't sketchy at all. The bathrooms are surprisingly new and quite clean, with ample body wash and shampoo, and towels for purchase. Our room was quite small-there was barely any room for us to put our luggage, but we managed fine because we didn't spend much time there. The walls are also quite thin, but everyone is quiet past 11PM or so, so it wasn't a problem.

Showers smelled of used feminine products and mold. Storefront appears to be under construction which made me question whether it was still open/in business. The WiFi was spotty and worked once, just long enough to look up an address. The locks on the door to the room seemed very secure and the staff were nice so that was good I guess.

Great hostel close to everything
Would highly recommend this hostel to anyone looking for well priced accommodation in Shinjuku. The staff were very helpful and the shared bathrooms were kept spotless. I would definitely stay here again.

テレビがない事と洗面のお湯が出ないことは先に知りたかったです。 ベッドの下には誰かのマスク、ベッド横の壁の段差にはプラカップが残っていました。シャワー室も、なぜかおしっこの匂いがして嫌でした。ホテルではないし安いので仕方ないのかもしれませんが、残念でした。
