About this property

Mountain Chalet with Hot Tub, Game Room, Hiking Trail, & Lake Access

  • Our cabin "Further Up and Further In" invites you to step out of the ordinary and into a mountain retreat built for families, friends, and anyone who wants space to breathe, play, and reconnect. Perched above the valley with long, layered views of the Nantahala ridgeline, this warm, timbered chalet blends roomy, light filled living spaces with playful, practical touches that make multifamily stays effortless.

We love mornings with coffee on the wraparound deck as mist lifts from the trees, afternoons spent on the lake or exploring forest trails, and evenings gathered around the fire pit or soaking in the hot tub beneath a sky full of stars.

The house sleeps up to ten across three thoughtfully arranged bedrooms and three baths, with a lower-level living area that feels like a second home for teens or grandparents who want a little separation without losing the family vibe.

    Inside the Home
Walk through the front door into a vaulted great room where a two-story wall of windows frames the mountains and floods the space with natural light. The main level centers on a comfortable living area with plush seating, a stone fireplace, and an open plan that flows into a fully equipped kitchen and dining area large enough for everyone to eat together.

The kitchen has everything you need to cook family meals: full size appliances, generous counter space, and a well stocked set of cookware and utensils. A pair of doors open to the upper deck where the hot tub waits for sunset soaks. Meanwhile, the grill stands ready for weekend barbecues.

    Downstairs:
The lower level is a second living zone with its own kitchenette, a cozy sitting area, and the game room—a magnet for kids and teens. The arcade cabinet loaded with classic games and the pool table keep rainy days and late nights lively.

    Bedrooms:
Bedrooms are arranged to maximize privacy and comfort: a primary suite with mountain views and an en-suite bath, plus two additional bedrooms and full baths. Linens, towels, and a washer/dryer are provided so you can travel light and stay comfortable. Small conveniences—high speed Wi Fi, smart TV, board games, and a selection of family movies—round out the indoor entertainment.

    Outdoor Living
The house was designed to live outdoors as much as in. Two levels of wraparound decks give you multiple vantage points for sunrise and sunset. The hot tub on the deck is perfect for starry nights and chilly mornings. Down the slope, a fire pit area with Adirondack chairs invites s’mores and storytelling and a hammock tucked among the trees are favorite spots for quiet reading or afternoon naps. There’s ample parking and easy, well-maintained access to the property. For families with kids, the yard offers open space for play while adults relax nearby.

    • Fishing: Spring trout season brings anglers to nearby streams and the lake; shore and boat fishing are both excellent options.
    • Early paddling: Calm days on Lake Nantahala are ideal for kayaking and paddleboarding; rental shops open for the season and offer lessons for beginners.
    • The Nantahala Wedding Venue is just minutes away

    Summer
    • Lake days: Spend long, sunny days at Lake Nantahala—swimming, tubing, or renting a pontoon for a lazy afternoon on the water. Lakeside marinas provide boat rentals, fuel, and casual dining.
    • Whitewater rafting: The Nantahala River runs family friendly rapids with guided outfitters offering half day and full day trips suitable for kids and first timers.
    • Outdoor adventures: Zipline tours, guided UTV rides, and ropes courses are within easy driving distance for families craving adrenaline.

    Fall
    • Foliage drives and hikes: The mountains transform into a patchwork of color—scenic drives and ridge hikes offer spectacular leaf peeping. Cooler evenings make the hot tub and fire pit especially inviting.
    • Harvest festivals: Local towns host seasonal markets, craft fairs, and farm stands where you can pick up fresh apples, pumpkins, and handmade goods.

    Winter
    • Cozy retreats: While heavy snow is occasional, winter is a time for cozy indoor gatherings—board games, arcade tournaments, and movie nights—plus hot tub soaks after crisp walks.
    • Nearby slopes: Skiing and snow tubing options are a reasonable drive away for day trips when conditions allow.

Throughout the year, the area offers wildlife viewing, scenic photography, and quiet moments on the water or in the woods. Local outfitters and visitor centers can help you plan guided trips, equipment rentals, and family friendly itineraries.

    Local logistics:
Grocery stores, pharmacies, and casual dining are a short drive away; for specialty items or big shopping trips, plan a trip to the Ingles Market on Main St. in Andrews. Cell service varies by carrier in mountain areas—Wi Fi is available for calls and streaming.

    Packing suggestions:
Bring layered clothing for cool mornings and warm afternoons, sturdy shoes for trails, and water shoes for lakeside fun. If you plan to raft, book with outfitters in advance during summer weekends.

    Why Guests Return
Families come back to Further Up and Further In because it balances adventure and ease. We offer a well-equipped chalet that entertains kids and relaxes adults, with quick access to both lake and river activities and a forested playground right outside the door. Whether your trip is built around boating and rafting, hiking and foliage, or simply unplugging together, this house gives you the space, amenities, and mountain spirit to make memories that last.

    How to Get to Us:
It is advised to arrive in the daylight hours to make it easier to find. It is not necessary to have a four-wheel drive vehicle. Please put vehicle in low gear and proceed at 10 mph and you will have no problem! From Wayah take Rhododendron (starting ascent up mountain and do not trust GPS) to Hemlock and then follow "Bear Rock Chalet" signs!
