The Lodges at Kilkea Castle

8/10 Good

"A lovely family breakaway at Kilkea Castle Lodges We had a lovely stay at Kilkea Castle Lodges for our first little breakaway as a family of three with our 3-month-old daughter. The lodge was a great size, and we really enjoyed the delicious breakfast in the clubhouse, the beautiful grounds and the spa facilities. The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We really appreciated having a cot and water provided on request. We did have a small issue one rainy evening when the safety latch on the door to Lodge 352 locked us out, but the staff responded immediately and were very helpful in resolving it. There are a few minor areas for improvement. The steps at the entrance to the lodge mean it isn’t easily accessible for prams or wheelchair users, which is worth considering for families with young babies and guests with mobility needs. The door to Lodge 352 was also difficult to close and required a loud bang, which wasn’t ideal when trying not to wake a sleeping baby. We noticed draughts coming in through the windows and patio door, particularly on a very windy night. Providing kitchen roll or a tea towel in the kitchen would also be a useful addition for drying cups and dishes. Overall, we had a very enjoyable stay and loved the setting, the lodge and the warm hospitality. With a few small improvements, it would be even better. We would happily return and look forward to visiting again!"
