"This hotel is managed by an adorable husband and wife who were super friendly and helpful. Check in was a breeze. The cute details in the hallways and alcoves show how much they pour their hearts and souls into this place. The room was simple but had all of the amenities I needed for my stay. Coffee, tea and water are available in the lobby and there is also a shared kitchen space as well as a small garden terrace. Breakfast is included at an authentic Costa Rican soda about 2 blocks away."
"Best location in Cartago for a hotel. Beds are not Marriott but they are clean and rooms are big enough for 3-4 people. The restaurant is good and not very expensive. The breakfast is nice and when they have the outdoor breakfast bar is probably my favorite experience of this hotel. If you’re going to be in Cartago, this is the best place to say. Very reasonably priced.
Most of the staff is bilingual in Spanish and English."
"★★★★☆ A beautiful and relaxing stay with a few disappointments
We really enjoyed our stay at Rancho Río Perlas. The property is beautiful, peaceful, and full of charm. The gardens were lovely and well maintained, especially considering the rainy season. The pools were a highlight — particularly the hot pool, which was clean, relaxing, and enjoyable. Our room was excellent: spacious, comfortable, and a lovely place to stay.
There were a few areas where our expectations did not match the experience. From the website, we expected a restaurant, pool bars, and more extensive spa facilities. Although these areas exist and look attractive, the restaurant and bars were not operating during our stay, meaning we had to leave the property for lunch, dinner, drinks, and snacks. The spa appeared to be limited mainly to massages booked in advance.
The WiFi worked well around the grounds but was unreliable inside our room.
Breakfast was somewhat disappointing for a place presented as a spa and wellness destination. The Gallo Pinto was very good, but options such as store-bought muffins and bottled juice did not reflect the healthy image promoted online. The breakfast service could also have felt warmer and more welcoming.
Overall, Rancho Río Perlas is a beautiful property with great potential. We enjoyed our visit and would recommend it, but clearer communication about available services and some improvements to the food and hospitality would make it an exceptional experience."
"If you want ultimate rainforest luxury and top level service you should stay here. Not to be missed. Raft in and out via the Pacuare river and be completely enveloped by the forest and river in the middle of nowhere while having high level meals breakfast, lunch and dinner, incredible adventure programs like zip lining through the canopy and repelling down little waterfall. Seriously. 1000% The food was top tier. The service was thoughtful and personal. The staff is amazing. And they have great wifi. In the middle of nowhere. Deep jungle. The rafting is world class. I had a Linda vista villa and it was an absurd amount of space and privacy with a personal plunge pool. Come back from dinner and your lights are on, fan going and curtains drawn. Seriously, stay here. I'm coming back again someday."
