Pier Joy: Two private cottages on 2.5 wooded acres, close to Union Pier beaches

  • Pier Joy is two cottages from the late 1940s, recently remodeled and joined, booked as one stay. The Cozy cottage and the Hidden cottage still have their own entrances, kitchens, living rooms, and baths. Connecting them gave each side an extra bedroom.

    The cottages sit on 2.5 wooded acres down a winding private drive, with plenty of room to park. Together they sleep 12: a queen and two fulls in the Cozy cottage, a king and two queens in the Hidden cottage, plus two full baths.

    Downtown Union Pier is walkable for coffee at Black Currant, dinner at Union Pier Social, and a classic stop at Red Arrow Roadhouse. Three beach accesses are close, including Union Pier Beach, about a 20 minute walk or a few minutes by car. Most guests drive. Round Barn and St. Julian are an easy stroll.

    A grill and a patio are at the house. Linens, wifi, washer/dryer, and A/C are included. Prices include all fees. Check-in is after 4pm, checkout by 11am. No pets (severe allergy), no parties, no smoking.

Both of our rentals were perfect! Plenty of parking, both units had everything the six of us needed! Nice deck with grill, furniture and again perfect! Kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans and dishes. Bath rooms were plenty big, nice showers and plenty of towels. Washer and dryer were a plus as we did laundry and the machines were modern and clean. Welcome gift bags were a very nice surprise. Tv and streaming, WiFi all great.

Perfect Location for Extended Family

The properties are quite comfortable for a large group. We had nine family members and the two units provided enough space for all of use to gather together inside or outside, and privacy when needed. John and Adriana are thoughtful hosts and make us feel welcome. Our go to location in Michigan.

Amazing weekend getaway!

I highly recommend this property. It was so clean and the host really thought of everything. My family loved the location close to beaches, wineries and local farms. The host also had a variety of sports equipment (volley ball, soccer, football) as well as board games that the kids had a blast with. And the back yard was large enough to let the kids run around in while we grilled and made a fire pit. Will definitely be staying again.

Fun Weekend with the Guys

Stayed in both cottages with a group of seven long-time friends. Lots of space inside and out. We went to breweries and the beach (not necessarily in that order) during the day and cooked dinner at night, ending with a fire. Both decks and fire pits had plenty of space for entertaining. We had everything we needed for our stay. Great property and great hosts.

Best equipped house I've stayed in!

We had 9 people (3 families) in the two units and it was perfect! Everything was clean, there were plenty of towels (bath & beach!) and as others have mentioned all the little things put this house over the top! Wine and chocolate covered pretzels from our hosts was so kind and since we planned on mostly eating in - all the kitchen ware and spices (yes!!!) were super helpful. It was the difference between feeling like you were staying in a home vs a hotel. Everything was really great and we enjoyed our time very much!

Our sanctuary.

We've been fortunate enough to witness the evolution this safe haven has had to offer. Nothing brings our friends and family such peace as much as our yearly trips to this wonderful sanctuary do. Best Stay Ever

We absolutely LOVED this rental. Our son's family includes our young granddaughter. Having the two properties was perfect for us. We could put her down for a nap yet could still socialize without waking her. The properties are super clean, have every gadget/kitchen item you could possibly need and had the cutest decor. We loved the backyard, too, wooded and with two firepits fully stocked with wood. The grill was great, too. We'll be back here, for sure. Communication with the owner/manager was terrific and they offered a thoughtful welcome gift. Also, beach chairs, bikes, sun umbrellas all ready for us. So thoughtful! LOVED IT!

All Around Fabulous!!

From booking to checkout by far our best trip ever!! The owners quickly answered any questions I had. Right before the trip the owners clearly communicated directions, check in etc. Once we got there we were greeted by a great welcome gift and personal note, super clean and comfortable houses, and literally any and every extra you could need including a sharpie to mark sandwiches for the beach. The kids (17-23) were able to ride bikes to the beach and to the bakery in the morning. The old folks could drive all the gear and together carry it down a short/no stairs walk to Berrien Beach. Parking wasn’t great, but as long as you follow the rules not horrible. We are already trying to get our dates together for next year’s stay. Thank you! Thank you!

I am happy to review the “Cottage I Union Pier”. My three friends & I stayed there June 27-30 (three nights). We were happily surprised to see that it was even better in person! (Oftentimes, it is the opposite.) Here are the factors which make my rating a 10/10:1.Excellent communication from host2.Immaculately clean3.Spacious room with AMAZING beds4.Kitchen well stocked5.Air conditioning great –put to good use during those hot days!6.Attention to details—for example, bins were provided below the bathroom for our respective toiletries so we could easily share a bathroom 7.Spacious parking area8.Easy access with codes9.Excellent washer and dryer with provisions provided10.The welcome card and snacks11.The ice provided in the freezer12.Nice lighting13.VERY easy exit (as opposed to sweeping floors, washing sheets, towels, etc at other places). That was so appreciated. If I am ever planning to be in the area again, I will book this place without hesitation!

Great location for family vacation! We had plenty of space for grandparents, aunt/uncles/grandkids! It definitely felt bigger in person than it did in the photos, which was great! Having the ability to rent both cottages was so perfect especially for our family! Hosts were LOVELY, left handwritten note and welcome bag, and plenty of amenities. I loved that there was shampoo/conditioner/bodywash provided as well. We drove 4 mins to the Townline Beach with public access and parking. Super close to New Buffalo, where we went to the spa for a few hours! It was a great trip, and a very comfortable stay! Check in and check out was SO EASY!

Another Great Stay

We are very comfortable at the cottage. Lots of games and things to do while staying in, and plenty of options in the local area. Smores by the fire during a light snow was great!

Wonderful stay. Communication with owners was great. Everything you need plus more. Loved the cleanliness and all the extras provided. Great firepit to use along with beach chairs and beach towels. Will definitely be staying here again!

The accommodations were both practical and beautiful for our family vacation (6 adults and 4 kids - ages 6mo to 6 yr). We had everything we needed - for at home and at the beach. Close to a number of beaches - we spent our time at Berrien which was perfect for the kids. Having the two spaces was very convenient. The owners provided prompt responses to all of our questions. It was easy to feel at home - we hope to return!

Fantastic Property !!

Loved our trip !! Owners were very thoughtful on how they remodeled the place . Bring some clothes and you’re all set, everything else is taken care of for you. Five minute drive to some really nice Lake Michigan beaches & restaurants. If you’re into the casino life it’s a five minute drive to Four Winds . Really peaceful quiet setting . Loved it !!

Union Pier Cottage

We rented both cottages for two families and it worked out perfectly. Both are updated and well appointed with kitchen, laundry room and backyard with two fire pits and a patio. The host left us a lovely bottle of rose and red wine along with a snack. Also, both cottages had a beach bag with towels and a cooler. We would defiantly stay here again.

Great Property

I stayed with my extended family for a kick off to summer vacation. The owners added a second unit that is really beautiful, well appointed and comfortable. My family stayed in the original unit, which we love. We cooked, had a fire at night (with s'mores, of course) and went to the local beach at sunset. Just a great way to start the summer.
