Top Upper Big Branch Miners Memorial Hotel Reviews
Days Inn by Wyndham Charleston WV
2/10 Terrible
"Here’s a cleaner, more polished version that still sounds genuine:
I booked this thinking it would be a good, inexpensive, and safe place to stay. Unfortunately, that was not the case. It appeared that people were actually living there, and there were creepy-looking men hanging around everywhere. Even my husband felt uncomfortable and thought the place was sketchy.
To make matters worse, the listing showed a nice hotel with a pool, which was very misleading. The property we arrived at was nothing like the photos and was in very poor condition. We ended up spending an additional $167 on another hotel because we did not feel safe staying there.
I would not recommend this place, especially for families with children or women traveling alone."
Holiday Inn Express Charleston-Civic Center by IHG
8/10 Good
"Arrived after 11pm but clerk was very helpful.
The room was clean and comfortable. USB ports are old and mostly damaged. Parts of room and bath felt like a renovation should be in the near future. Breakfast was good and filling. Thank you for service."
"Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Our room was ok. The bedroom was much smaller than expected. The room could have been cleaned much better. I only saw one housekeeper during our stay, so maybe she is overwhelmed. The fridge didn’t appear to be wiped on the outside as there were fingerprints and food on it. The mirror in the bathroom and full length closet mirror were extremely dirty. My teenage son slept on the pull out couch. When he pulled it out, there was rust all over the mattress from the frame. Main bed was quite worn out on one side, but after I traded sides with my kid, I slept a bit better the second night. Although we didn’t get a chance to use the pool, it looked clean and well kept. Same with the exterior of the property. My sons enjoyed using the basketball court. We brought our own ball. Not sure if they have one to borrow. Breakfast was ok - nothing fancy… Just your basic motel breakfast. One thing I’d like to point out, is it seems as this hotel now has some contracts with construction and/or no road companies. There were a ton of male employees there for work. They would be sitting in their trucks at night, outside around the property, etc. I’m not easily intimidated, and had my 6ft teenage son with me, so I felt safe for the most part. However, this may be uncomfortable for some women, especially if traveling solo - so just a heads up. I would possibly consider staying again, but mainly due to the outdoor pool and basketball court."
"Hotel was clean, staff very friendly and helpful. The room itself was dated. The mattress on the pull out couch was awful (wicked thin and the couch itself was broken so when pulled out, the mattress inclined backwards instead of flat.) Draw in the bathroom was broken, so couldn't access the hair dryer or extra toiletries housed in it."
"The staff went above and beyond to make our stay special as it was our first family vacation. The hotel is very quiet - perfect for our newborn baby. The rooms are clean and spacious and parking is free! Can’t say enough good things about this place. We will definitely be back!"
"Booked cause they had a pool and paid a higher price but when we arrived the pool had been permanently closed. It would have e been nice to know before booking that there was no pool."
