It all seemed too good to be true. Until the key we had been sent opened the door and we walked in to find the house every bit as spacious and attractive as it appeared on the website, was I certain we had not made an error in booking. The rooms were indeed all very large, bright and very comfortable. The house was definitely as good as advertised - and larger and brighter than expected. The 2 large master bedrooms were complete with a modern en suite bathroom, one even had a dressing room. Both had comfortable king beds. The 2 other bedrooms had 2 twin beds and there is a very large bright shared family bathroom. We found the large kitchen very well equipped, the dishes pleasing and plentiful - kitchen amenities includes a gas stove, a dishwasher, a large table for family breakfast. In addition, there is an enormous dining room for relaxed evening meals. If preferred, there is also an outdoor table and chairs for 8. With darkness falling at 10 during our stay, we enjoyed sitting here a few evenings reliving the events of our day with a glass of wine or cider.
We were a family of six - 3 generations - grandparents, parents and 2 girls - 12 and 15. The 12 year old actually celebrated her birthday there.
In this spacious house we all felt we had the freedom to be alone or with family - to wander out of doors, or just sit in one of the comfortable chairs in the sitting room.
Set on a large property in a beautiful rural area, the house is only minutes from several lovely historic villages with access to supermarkets, butchers, bakeries, pharmacies, dining, gas, etc. There is so much to explore and enjoy! During our stay of a week, we used the chateau as a base to explore much of Normandy and a small bit of Brittany. Our explorations included - the D-Day Beaches (including the towns, museums and cemeteries). We visited Bayeux, Caen, Rouen, Honfleur, Mont St. Michel, St.Malo, etc. To visit Normandy had been the motivation for our visit, and to be located within a reasonable drive of places we hoped to visit had been an important consideration. Sometimes the drives were a couple of hours, but we did several things each time. The bonus, we got to know and enjoy Normandy.
We loved the house and the region and hope we will return another time to Normandy, to stay again, of course, at Chateau de Bremesnil.
Thank you Sharon for sharing your lovely Normandy home with us.
