Tawhiri-matea is the atua of wind and weather - you stand a good chance of meeting him when you stay in Waiouru.
Tawhiri may be the easiest place in New Zealand to find; we are the first gate you see when you come into Waiouru from Ohakune; the last gate before the 100kph sign as you leave.

Beautiful mountain view stay

We loved staying here and wish we could've stayed a few more days! Ross was so welcoming from the moment we got there. The views were gorgeous and the house was lovely. I would recommend sleeping with earplugs as there is a train the goes by at night, but otherwise the stay was fantastic. Would definitely stay here again.

Warm, comfortable and well appointed. The views were also beautifull. However access to the accomodation was difficult and we struggled to get our large suitcases from the parking area across the gap driveway to the entrance.

Gone the extra mile with a smile

We arrived early for check-in after a long journey, but we were met with a smile and allowed to check in. Ross went the extra mile, helping us with a few extras along the way and lots of local knowledge. The place was neat and well appointed. We had very cold weather but had ample bedding and heating. We would highly recommend.
