What an excellent place to stay near Turkey Run State Park. About a 10-minute drive, and it was a nice option for those who don't want to set up camp, but still get all the benefits of the park. While we weren't there for much, the beds were super comfy, the neighbourhood was still (so quiet), and the common areas for shooting pool, shuffleboard, and air hockey were just perfect - after warming up from the colder hike. We are already planning our next trip and hope to stay here again!

I LOVE that the apartment is located in an old school! I rented it because of its proximity to Turkey Run and Shades state park. The apartment was neat and clean, but my favorite part was access to the gym and games! My kids and I had so much fun playing basketball, ping pong and pool. We will definitely be planning on going back for another stay.

Last min get away

This place was perfect. Not fancy but more than adequate with lots of towels, dishes, kitchen supplies and perfectly clean. Would definitely return and tell others about this place if they were visiting Turkey Run.

Loved the whole property.. Everything was unique, beautiful and comfortable! There was 4 of us and the apartment was the perfect size for us.. felt like home! An awesome well designed home! Could have spent days enjoying the history of the school and admiring the business venue. The gym and games in the hall were so much fun!! After a day at Turkey Run we would come back have amazing laughing fun!!! Loved it!! One bedroom used to be the principles office and our grankids were in that one.. lots of jokes about that. Staying at this quaint apartment made our vacation perfect and we cant wait to come back! Thanks Charles for always being available and the wonderful welcome gift!

Awesome Experience

Terrific place to stay. More than makes up for being off the beaten path. Close to Turkey Run park and 15 miles from Crawfordville. Extraordinary amount of amenities. Must put on your to-do list.

Quick trip to Shades State Park

I visit the area about once a year. I often camp, and on shorter trips I’ve stayed at a hotel in Crawfordsville until this year. The Schoolhouse property was perfect for my need. Right off 47 in Waveland, very convenient for getting to Shades or Turkey Run State Parks. Quite a unique property, it was super comfortable and clean. I am already planning next year’s stay here. It was perfect for my needs.

Unique place to stay

We decided at last minute to stay here instead of camping at Turkey Run due to weather uncertainties. It was a fun, memorable place to stay. Perfect for my husband and I plus our dog. Bed was comfortable. We had everything we needed in the kitchen. Unique way to convert the administration offices of an elementary school into an apartment. Close to both Shades and Turkey Run!

Unique Property

This is a unique property that allows you to use some of the ancillary features at the facility. We really enjoyed playing pool and shuffleboard. The site is located in the middle of covered bridge country and near Shades and Turkey Run and was a great base for us.

Hidden gem!

We stumbled on this VRBO property while looking for somewhere to stay close to Turkey Run State Park. It exceeded our expectations in so many ways! Very clean, and the kids were tickled by the extra access to the gym and game area. It was a very easy drive to both Shades and Turkey Run, and the one morning it rained there were DVDs provided that kept us all content to hang out inside watching a movie and playing. Overall it was a unique and cool VRBO that we'll be saving for a repeat trip in the future!

So Happy We Found This Place

This was our second stay at Schoolhouse BNB and we are hoping to make it an annual tradition. Love the amenities of the schoolhouse and appreciate the mix of modern design with the original school touches. Might not be everyone’s taste but for those looking for a fun outdoorsy trip to the Turkey Run area, it’s perfect. Conveniently located by a few parks. The town of Waveland itself does not have much to offer but the proximity to many attractions makes it well worth it. The owner of this property is very receptive and attentive. Looking forward to making more memories here in the future!

Such a cool idea for a VRBO!

The school office was the perfect size for the 2 of us. We could not get over the uniqueness and the great idea. Everything was very, very clean. Towels and sheets were bright white and the faint smell of bleach is refreshing. There wasn't much to do or see around the immediate town, but the 2 state parks within 15 minutes were both fantastic. The hosts were great, they left an adorable welcome gift bag and were very quick to communicate.

Great family stay!

Most unique VRBO we've ever stayed at!! Very clean, lots of unexpected activities and cute gift from the owner! This schoolhouse property is such a cool idea. We spent our days hiking at Turkey Run State Park/Shades State Park and our evenings at the Schoolhouse. There are so many things to do...we had access to billiards, foosball, shuffleboard, ping pong and the entire gymnasium at the school. The activities are set up throughout the hallways and in the gym which also had basketballs, etc. for our use. On our next trip to Turkey Run, we will definitely be staying here!

Turkey Run

The property was as expected. Very clean. Very easy to find. Close enough to Turkey Run, and other small towns. Ideal location for antiquing. Plenty of space for my dogs and their kennels. Even a large enough yard for them to run. The only negative, for us, was that we both like to cook at home, and we were limited with cookware. Though, side note, the host left us this cute "grab bag".

Interesting site close to hiking

What a great use of an old school. The apartment was converted from the offices of an old elementary school. My daughter got a kick out of staying in the principal's office. We booked this for a weekend hiking trip at Turkey Run. The location is close to Turkey Run and Shades. It was quiet and private. It was super clean and the beds were comfortable. The kitchen allowed us to cook breakfast before we went out hiking. We also liked being close enough to come back for a mid-day break. Communication with Charles was easy. Apartment was dog friendly as well. We didn't get to hike in Shades because of the weather, so we'll definitely be back.

We stayed here two nights for the Covered Bridge festival and loved it! Check in was easy and Charles was quick to respond with any questions. The apartment was very clean and I feel the amenities went above and beyond, there was coffee, creamer, sugar, water and soda! Other places I have stayed have bare minimum. It was a quick 15-20 minute drive to Rockville for the festival and there is a good cafe right there in town for breakfast. We had the whole school to ourselves and there was a cool game room area. I would definitely stay here again, if I had any suggestions it would be to have outside lighting. At night, it was a dark neighborhood and there was no outside lights so it was hard to see when trying to unlock the outside doors.

An entire elementary school to yourself!!

This property is a real gem and I commend the owners for recognizing the potential and for saving a piece of the community’s history! The quirky-ness makes this a really fun getaway and makes you feel like a kid again! Me and my sister (both 50+) took advantage of the facility each evening of our stay. We played HORSE on the basketball court, played ping pong and air hockey and watched several of the movies provided. It was also just cool to explore the school although a little spooky at times but even that made it very memorable. This is a great location. Close to Turkey Run, which is a beautiful park and in a good location to explore the local covered bridges and the awesome assortment of antique stores. We stayed 3 nights and had plenty to do and see on our visit and could have used a few more days because we ran out of time to see Shades park. The apartment was clean and comfortable and was all that we needed for a great home base. Would definitely stay here again if in the area. Thanks to the owners for a unique and memorable experience!

Unique Historical Place

Very unique remodel of an old elementary school! They left a lot of the original aspects of the school in tact while modernizing it and making it practical for use as an BNB as well as storage, a recording studio and a place to host others special events. The BNB is in what was the principal's and administrative offices, nurse's office and teacher's lounge. It's very spacious, about the size of a 2 bedroom apartment. They have pretty much all the amenities you need. You also have access to the gym (basketball and ping pong) and the hall area which has pool, shuffleboard and foosball. We hiked at Turkey Run State Park during the day and enjoyed playing games together at the schoolhouse during the evenings. They even allowed us to bring our small dog for no extra fee. They have all the items you need to cook meals here. The host also left us a gift bag with a hand written note which added a really nice personal touch.

Interesting Place to Stay

Check in was quite easy, although I had to send a message the evening before arrival because I hadn't received any instructions. This is the first time this has ever happened to me boooking through VRBO. Generally instructions are sent a couple days prior to arrival, or at least a message stating when they will be sent. Charles was quick to respond to my message with instructions. The whole place is interesting. The apartment was clean and well stocked, beds were reasonably comfy, wifi worked great. We were able to explore the facilities since nothing else was in use. The old gymnasium is really neat. Game tables were great. We were conveniently located between Shades Srate Park and Turkey Run, which was our reason for the visit. Crawfordsville was about 20 minutes away, which is where pwe ended up dining. The building is not in the nicest of neighborhoods. The community surrounding the property looks to have been hit by some hard times. Many parcels had been infested by weed and tree growth, seemingly abandoned. Although no fault of the owners, this distracted us from our stay. Would I stay again, probably. Is it a neat property, definitely. Was it worth the price, yes.
