This was a lovely place to stay. The view is spectacular. We enjoyed the two pools, hot tub & mini putt with our two young children.
We also did the oak island boat tour and it was so convenient to board right on property.
Beautiful location right by the water, lots of green space and room to roam. Easy parking. Coffee in main lobby and a dining room/bar which is very convenient. Although busy was still very quiet. Hotel was very clean with spacious rooms. Has everything to meet our needs.
Lovely ocean views and decor throughout. Nice outdoor patio seating and more than one outdoor fireplace for groups to go around. I was not happy about the dampness in the room, (sheets felt wet and clammy). It would have been helpful if the fan unit had been turned on in the room before our arrival. I also noticed that the carpet, and bathroom door, walls, trim, could use a good cleaning.

Stay more than one day!
Lovely stay here. The surroundings, the room, the service, and amenities were all great. Our only issue was with the fact that there are multiple levels but no elevators which made it awkward to bring cart our luggage to and from our room. I was advised to let them know ahead of time and they would arrange for a room at ground level, but that doesn't address the fact that others will have to cart their bags up and down stairs. It detracted only marginally from an otherwise great stay. It would be best to stay here multiple days to take advantage of all the amenities.
Booked this trip for our 46th wedding anniversary. I booked for the amenities that the hotel offered and the location. Very disappointed! Restaurant was closed and no back up plan other than a boxed breakfast. No room service! No garbage pick up, no towels refill, no coffee refill, no clean sheets during 4 day, 3 night stay. Drinks were expensive.
Lovely and relaxing weekend. I appreciated the large, stone fireplace. For me it was the perfect place to relax with a good book. Enjoyed the live entertainment in the evenings.
Was a very pleasant experience, staff were superb!

Needs to improve.
Under staffed, slow checking, the staffs frustration was expressed openly. Restaurant was only open 5-9 pm. Pools where ice cold, indoor and out. It is a nice place with a great location but appears to be either cutting costs, unwilling to hire enough staff, badly managed. Nightly entertainment was great.

This is my 3rd time staying there - and last. Hotel is overpriced, needs a bit of a makeover inside (don't get fooled if they say room with water view). Staff never bothered to inform guests that restaurant was booked for private reunion in morning - offering no options to other guests for breakfast (nor offering suggestions off site).
Wonderful staff at check in, very helpful. Update to resort very nice, had not stayed here for over a year- but the refresh in the rooms and throughout is fabulous. Very clean and great atmosphere throughout.
We live in Nova Scotia and wanted a weekend away. My wife and I brought our 6 month old to relax, unwind and get away for the weekend.
Hotel is in a great location. It’s a very short drive to Mahone Bay and Lunenburg which are two of our favourite places to visit.
Hotel appears to have been renovated in the past few years. The lobby, restaurant and bar were all incredibly clean and bright with lots of natural sunlight. Room was clean with a great view of the marina.
Hotel staff was incredibly courteous and friendly from the time I called to request a crib right through until checkout.
There was live entertainment both nights of our stay which was lovely.
We will definitely return.
We are in unprecedented times! This review takes that into consideration! Check-in was not favourable but upon checking out we were able to get the $25 room upgrade taken off. We had a room facing the parking lot and when we asked for a water facing room were told because we booked through a third-party, Expedia, that we would have to pay an upgrade Fee! We knew the hotel was not full and found that to be cheesy! Upon checkin found out that most of the amenities were closed down we wanted a room overlooking the bay so we would not be looking at a parking lot! To use the pool we had to book a time, that turned out to be an issue! If one could book time to use pool what would be the problem, with also booking time in the hot tub and sauna? We are After all bubbling here in the Martimes, One would assume therefore it was quite safe for all! The pool washroom was not open, public safety issue?
Food was very good! Atmosphere in restaurant could be improved by adding paper placemats and setting tables!
Entertainment was excellent, one man band playing guitar and singing!
My personal belief amenities are not open to save money and blame it on COVID!
The place was very clean and new as well the bar had a very good band each night we were at the resort. Played a wide assortment of tunes which were very good.
We are so disappointed. After coming to Oak Island Resort at least once a year ( usually twice and a few times with our businesses for multiple nights and multiple rooms) for six years we are disheartened with the poor customer service. With Covid19 we decided out of loyalty to make Oak Island our choice even with the huge increased in room price. We agreed to stay 2 nights instead of resorts in Cape Breton and Digby. We spent over $1000 on our two nights.
During our stay we meant another couple that have a longer stay. They too are “older” and professionals. We both purchased meals and beverages for those that might be struggling.
While there were many examples of cranky staff, the last straw was when at midnight, the young bar tender told us that we were being too loud. There were 4 of us and we did no more than a regular laugh. They said that there was a noise complaint ( we were very far from any room... the closest being out personal rooms) yet they just wanted us to leave so they could be off for the night.
This false accusation was insulting and false. After being “ dispersed” we talked to 4 that felt disrespected.
Sorry Oak Island. We were warned that the service was worse since Covid but were willing to give you a chance. Hurtful and dishonest... reviews will not be positive.
screen door missing /not able to enjoy the fresh night sea air ..room was clean, service okay, staff seemed over worked ...looked tired and or frustrated
