Our Space
Vindstille Cottage Retreat, Our Nest, sits in the middle of a peninsula on the SC side of Lake Hartwell. Nature surrounds our serene Vindstille Cottage and now this beautiful carriage house retreat. We built Vindstille Cottage in 2006 as our personal vacation home and moved permanently here in 2016. In 2019 we completed the addition of this 900 square foot retreat for guests above an unattached garage so we could continue to have guests come and stay and take time to rest and relax away from the hurried life. Vindstille is a Norwegian word for calm or calm wind. This place brings a sense of calm and restfulness and a place to retreat and relax. Our retreat encourages low media time and more quiet relaxing. It is also in the resort community of Foxwood Hills, making fun activities easy to find. Many residents are retired and enjoy the slow pace this area provides. The resort amenities available to guests include a playground, tennis/volleyball/basketball court, a seasonal (summer only) Olympic size salt water outdoor pool. Pool guests will need prior authorization and host’s pool pass. The restaurant and bar are available for guests. Vindstille cottage has an array of fun seasonal activities. A fire pit is on the cottage grounds and guests can reserve a Fire Pit Nite and menu options ranging from weenie roast, S’more fun or a meal with all the above with our Cottage Chili. Hot cozy cocoa will be a new menu item available! Our Fire Pit Night has become very popular. Fire Pit Nites are free, but guests will need to purchase the menu items on our Cottage Cuisine Menu. Payments can be easily made through Venmo. We have our retreat decorated for the seasons as well. We have it ready for fall fun from September to the end of October. Christmas is from early November till the end of December. A great place to celebrate the seasons and holidays, football games, apple picking, hikes and waterfalls, mountain towns.

Triste was such a gracious host and “the nest” is a darling and very comfortable place to kick back and relax and get an awesome nights rest. It’s close enough to surrounding urban areas to go out and enjoy shopping, dining, and other activities and a great place to retreat from the hustle and bustle when the day (or night) is done.
We stayed at "the nest" for our celebration weekend. My husband came home from a one year deployment and we came down to visit our daughter at Clemson for parents weekend. The nest was sparkling clean and well equipped with lots of little extras. Our hosts were easy to communicate with and quick to respond to any messages we sent. We were comfortable and happy :) Highly recommend!!
Cute little apartment and perfect for our family of 3. We cooked most of our meals so the kitchen was stocked well. Wish we'd been able to take more advantage of the properties amenities, but we had a long weekend of rain. Cable tv was nice, but the internet access was not great and had poor cell service as well. We bought some of our own toys/books, but they did have those in the apartment as well which was nice. Bedrooms were a great size and bathroom was clean, and nice towels were provided. Plenty of extra linens as well. Took advantage of the washer/dryer since we had wet clothes from the rain.
Definitely a 5 star rating from me, and my son concurs. From booking to check-in/checkout, it was a breeze. I was immediately impressed with how clean and welcoming it was when we entered. A sign with a warm greeting was strategically placed for us to see as we opened the door. It was a personal touch.
Not every home on the rental sites is as pictured, and this leads to disappointment. "The Nest" was such a pleasant surprise and especially appreciated after a 12 hour drive. So clean and well thought out; the beds were comfortable, and honestly, above average. I appreciated the quality of the bedding and the special touches that made the bedrooms inviting and relaxing. The only thing I missed was a full length mirror to assess my appearance before going out in public.
This by far was my favorite "home away from home", and I would definitely stay again without hesitation. The host is incredibly responsive and goes above and beyond any expectations I might have had. Top notch! Truly relaxing and restful after busy days of hiking and taking in area waterfalls. A peaceful environment tucked away but easily accessible, too. Excellent in every way!
