If you’re looking for a “get away from it all” type of vacation with incredible beauty, privacy and beachside luxury, this is the place for you. The house itself is perfectly laid out for enjoying the splendor of Whitby Beach. All common areas are open and spaced together with a wall of 4 sliding doors right to the large tiled patio that leads right to the sand and just maybe 25 ft to high tide mark of the rolling waves of the ocean. The pool sits off to the left, which allowed us to just lay on a raft and stare right out to the palms, beach and water. The Master Bedroom is also situated on the back of the house with walls of 3 sliding glass doors where we could wake up, not even move but just look down through the end of the bed out into the turquoise ocean. We would take a morning stroll to the right or left for a mile or better and most of the time not even see one other person. Just a few other beach homes. During our week, it had to be by far the best area for Conch shell gathering. We brought up over 150 Conchs ranging from 6” to 12”. Geez, we didn’t expect it, but some of them weighed nearly 5 lbs or more each. We did hit the sites like Flamingo Landing, Mudjin Harbor, Three Mary Cays, etc, but still found our favorite place to be was at the house. The few restaurants/bars on the island are just there, great for what we needed on a few nights but most of our week we spent making our own bacon & egg breakfasts and just grilling when we wanted. Throw a few dogs on the grill or a steak here and there, it was perfect for us. Not for everyone. We were there in the off season so it was quiet but I still wouldn’t expect to find any fine dining or night life around if that’s what you’re looking for. We weren’t. Enjoy the beauty of it all and enjoy each other and your family. That is what this vacation was all about for us and it was all of that and more. Will be back….
