The Montana Retreat - Gateway to Glacier National Park
This cozy Montana home is your base to explore Glacier National Park, Whitefish, Whitefish Mountain Resort, Flathead Lake, Flathead Valley, Salish/Kootenai country, and much more! Located in a quiet, rural area 3 miles west of Kalispell, the home is a warm 3 bed/2 bath offering bright, southern exposure and views of Flathead Valley and the Swan Mountain Range.
Our home is centrally located with limitless possibilities just a short drive away:
- 3 miles from Kalispell - 3 miles from Rebecca Farms - 4 miles to Foys Lake - 18 miles to Whitefish - 26 miles to Whitefish Mountain Resort - 14 miles to Flathead Lake - 14 miles to Glacier International Airport - 32 miles to Blacktail Mountain Ski Area - 45 miles to West Glacier (Glacier National Park) - 91 miles to East Glacier
Endless outdoor opportunities await here: skiing, fishing, hiking, camping, boating, cycling, photography, or just relaxing along a stream or lake.
The house is a cozy south-facing home on a hillside overlooking the southern Flathead Valley and Swan Mountain Range. The property covers over an acre and a half of pasture with privacy trees around the house. The exterior offers a paved driveway, patio, perimeter deck, and yard area with a fire pit and seating.
Inside you will find 3 private bedrooms sharing two bathrooms as well as the living room, eat in kitchen, (new appliances installed October 2021) sitting room and laundry. Upstairs, one bedroom has closet space and a Queen size bed while the second is smaller with no closet and full-size bed with built in drawer storage. The downstairs bedroom has a closet and plenty of storage space with its own dedicated bathroom.
The home is a split level, and the washer and dryer as well as the third bedroom and second bathroom are on the lower level. There is also a living space with TV and work space downstairs.
Other areas we would recommend are Kootenai River Falls (Libby) at 96 miles, the National Bison Range (Moiese) at 57 miles or Polebridge (NW entrance to GNP) at 57 miles. To the west the country is dotted with many lakes within an hour that offer plenty of recreation opportunities and easy access for boaters. These areas are generally less busy and make a great addition to a Glacier National Park visit without all the traffic. Popular lakes are Bitteroot (20 minutes), McGregor (30 minutes), and the Thompson chain lakes (50 minutes).

The house was clean, lots of extras, in a quiet neighborhood, overall a great place to stay. Just far enough out of town to not be busy but only a few minutes from shopping and restaurants.
We had a nice stay with plenty of space and items stocked for cooking. We did notice earwigs and gnats in the house which were annoying. The house was also very hot when we got there and it took a lot of fans use and coving up windows to help mitigate this. The basement rooms were more temperate. The location worked out great for our needs.
We had a great experience at The Montana Retreat. The host was communicative and the rooms were nice. The house was stocked with supplies and some food that others left which was nice. Plus there was bear spray there. The back deck was very nice. We spent many evenings on the deck. The house is at a good location to go to Glacier and other parks in the area. My only downside was there was no whole house AC since I'm a warm person, but we made it work with opening the windows at night and there was also a portable AC unit. We would definitely recommend the place and would come back if in the area again.

Beautiful Night Sky
We had a very nice stay even though we did not spend too much time in the house. We were always on the go. The house was a little older but was very clean. It was decorated nicely. Especially loved the sheets. lol
At night we were able to see the stars so clearly. We even saw a few shooting stars. That was really cool.
Even though we had a very nice stay, there was a few negatives.
The downstairs shower was horrible since you could not adjust how close or far away you would want the water to flow. It was so far that you had to push your head back to not get hit. I had to shut off the water in order to not have the soap wash off the washcloth. There was plenty of space in the room itself but not enough storage for your toiletries. We had to space our showers due to the hot water not lasting as long as we hoped.
The grounds were not kept up. Overgrown grass all around. The area where you see pictures of a sitting area outside was covered in debris. and clutter. Some to those chairs were knocked on its side. It was not a place I would want to hang out even if we had a chance. It would be wonderful if you had lights on the side of the driveway. It was very dark and hard to see the house. Even with lights on the porch.
My husband said the owners were very nice and easy to work with during our stay. All in all we enjoyed our stay.

Perfect for a four-person golf trip. Well equipped kitchen, plenty of amenities. Host was very responsive.
We stayed 4 nights (20-24 Sept) and enjoyed our stay. The VRBO is about 45 minutes from the west entrance of glacier national Park but had great choices for dinning options. It was very well stocked with supplies and necessities, including bear spray.. Would definitely recommend this place for your glacier outing.
Chris and Amy's house was a perfect location for my classmates and I as we are in Kalispell for our clinical rotations. Our long-term housing was not available until the first of the month and we needed something for the ~week before. This spot was perfect. The kitchen was amazingly stocked with every kitchen utensil and appliance you could think of (instapot, crockpot, etc). We had an amazing view of the Flatheads outside the front windows --we drank our coffee in the two chairs every morning watching the sunrise. Dreamy. Chris and Amy were very responsive and accommodating to our situation and I'm so grateful!
We will definitely be back! Thank you so much!

Visited GNP
We stayed here to visit Glacier National Park. The park entrance is less than an hour away. As stated in other listings, the house and most of the contents are older, but clean. We did not use the outside area. The portable/standing air conditioning unit in the upstairs TV room and the couple other fans provided do struggle to maintain a comfortable temperature. Overall though it was a decent place to stay during our 4-day stay in Kalispell.
Relatively short drive to Glacier national Park, local restaurants and grocery store. Full size washer and dryer was helpful after being on the road for a week and hiking a lot. Great communication with owner. Excellent views of the sun rising.
This house was very clean and exactly as advertised. The beds were pretty comfortable. The views were great. Also, we were minutes from grocery shopping and great restaurants. We really like the pizza at Moose's Saloon in downtown Kalispell.
Chris was very responsive to our needs. Check-in and check-out was a breeze.
Overall, this house was perfect for our needs and I would easily stay here again if we find ourselves back in Kalispell.

This property was excellent in every way! The kitchen had everything you could possibly want and need. It was very clean, the views were great. I enjoyed drinking my coffee in comfy chairs while looking at the scenery around us. The bedrooms were of good size and the beds were pretty comfy to sleep on! The owner of the property is a fantastic communicator. He answered any question I had by email almost immediately if not then an hour or so later. We would definitely stay again. It was perfect for us three ladies!
