Colorado Living Yurt

This is a fully functional, fully equipped yurt located in the magnificent Unaweeep Canyon. It offers all the amenities of home while still allowing a strong connection with the outdoors. The origin of the "yurt" or "ger" can be traced back to nomadic tribes of Mongolia. While the modern yurt offers a few extra creature comforts, the essence of living in a round structure has remained the same!!!!

Property was double booked, owner would not pay for hotel room
I drove with my family 4 hours just to stay at this yurt in the middle of nowhere, only to find it was double-booked and we would not be able to stay. Contacted the owner and he blamed another website, said they had done this to him before and that he wouldn't use them anymore - still one month later his listing his still on that site. He was apologetic and offered to help us find a place to stay, but w/dogs and a child I ended up booking a cheap hotel 45 minutes away thinking he would reimburse me. No luck. After several attempts to clear this up with him I am left with only the option of a bad review. The yurt itself looked ok, though not as pictured, and there is another vacation rental that shares the same driveway and is nearby, also not mentioned in his description. Overall it was a terrible experience: a waste of the little vacation time my husband gets and couple tanks of gas. Staying in a crappy hotel room with 2 dogs, a grumpy husband, and my 3 year old who was crying about not getting to stay in the yurt that she was super-excited about was not fun!

Great place!
The valley where the yurt is located was wonderful, like camping in a secluded spot but with the comforts of home, I’d definitely recommend this spot

Unbeatable Location
This property is in a unique location, and is perfect for solitude and enjoying the outdoors in a beautiful and remote location. Hiking is available right outside the door. There are also hiking trials close by. The stargazing at night is magnificent. The Yurt itself is roomy, the loft area is perfect underneath the clear dome. The kitchen and bathroom make staying in the Yurt very manageable and comfortable. The owner Nick is responsive and clearly interested in making certain you have a great stay. We loved the warmth of the pellet stove, and enjoyed the outdoor fire pit and the large grill. Do not pass up an opportunity to stay here!

Overall, beautiful and unique property.
Had a quiet, restful time. Easy access, peaceful and beautiful views. Inquired about sleeping situation and linen availability with no response. Not sure where 10 people would sleep with only two beds available. Could use some cleaning in the ceiling area- very cob-webby. Still had a nice stay.

Family Retreat
The property was clean and had beautiful views. It is represented to sleep 10, but it has one queen bed, one futon and one mattress in a loft with sleeping bags. We had 5 adults and that was the max. I think it could sleep with us sharing beds. The seating is not for a large group. Thankfully we brought some camping chairs. It was a remote, relaxing, family retreat for us but not as comfortable for sleeping as we hoped. Propety Managers were responsive and driving directions were clear. We would return maybe with one couple.

In need of some TLC
We were, overall, disappointed with our stay. This was our honeymoon, so I lacked time to do a ton of research on the area due to planning a wedding and having family from all over the country visiting. We were told that we'd have wifi and a blue-tooth speaker there, but once we arrived only one device would connect to the wifi and there was no speaker. We reached out were told that another guest left it out in the rain, but if we wanted to drive up to Grand Junction, they'd buy one and give it to us up there. Internet peeps came out and told us there was an issue with their router, but they wouldn't give us a discount because we got the weekly rate, which was discounted. So, we had to drive to Gateway to look up info on the area. They had a fire pit so we asked if they had chairs--they said yes. It turned out to be the old, plastic chairs and both of them had broken backs, one of which was tied together with string so you couldn't even lean back without your back getting pinched or caving out all together. The first night in the bed was incredibly uncomfortable--we looked at the mattress and actual springs were coming out. We ended up buying and leaving behind a mattress pad. We were excited to use the loft to see the stars, but it appeared they were just using it as a storage area on one side and then there was a plain, old mattress tossed up there with no sheets or anything on or near it & the amount of dust and cobwebs was unruly, so we didn't lay up there together. There is also a massive red ant infestation. They were invading the yurt *only* one day, but they overrun the yard so if you have a dog, it won't be able to lay down outside with you. We were bitten several times, as was my dog. The pellet stove is in need of maintenance, too. The gasket is falling off the front door, making it tough to hold the heat in, so the yurt was never really warm. And finally, there was no book of info. We were staying for a week. Unbeknownst to us, the cleaning lady came by early in the week to take the trash, but said that was it for her. We had no info on where to take the trash or anything useful to people who were staying for a full week. TBH, the yurt is nice, it just seems like the owners haven't been down in a while to check things out or they weren't ready for the season or something--it just needs some actual attention. Lightbulbs were out, cobwebs, dirty from people using it. Just things that a day or 2 of TLC would help.

Wonderful place and location
The yurt was beautiful- both inside and in its location. We did have some trouble with the pellet stove that made it a bit chilly but still had a fantastic time!

The View!
This Yurt is better than staying in the National Parks! The view across the valley both night & day is amazing. The animal sounds & sightings is terrific as well. In the Yurt we had to work with the heat of the day as well as cool evenings so that was an experience as well.
