"Very basic. Hotel room wasn’t what I thought it would be. There were hardly any plug sockets and everything was hard work for example the kettle situation was very faffy. Also the bathroom fan was so loud. Bed was comfortable but it just didn’t live up to expectations. The foyer was very meh! I arrived on a Sunday and there was no food available so I had to Deliveroo. Not what it appears to be online."

"The staff were friendly and the amenities including the pool were great. However, the beds were extremely uncomfortable and the pillows were so unsupported meaning it was difficult to sleep each night. Also, during breakfast the drinks and some foods were always empty meaning you’d have to ask and wait for contents to be refilled/ replenished. There was also a private event going on which meant the bar inside the hotel couldn’t be used."

"We stayed at the Mercure for one night when attending a wedding at the Town Hall which was literally opposite the hotel. We were a bit worried after reading some of the reviews on here, but we found our room (Privilege Room 511) to be clean, in good condition and well furnished. If you looked closely there were areas around the edge of the room and behind the door in the bathroom which could have been hoovered better, but that's the same in any hotel. We were also missing the bottles of water but that wasn't the end of the world and I'm sure we could have asked for them if needed. Breakfast was good with both continental breakfast and a limited cooked breakfast. Standard check out of 12pm was really useful with plenty of time to get ready in the morning. Only one lift was working so it was quite busy with a bit of a delay but it wasn't an issue and we could always use the stairs. The Q car park was within easy reach. We would definitely stay here again."

"Room in need of a refurb and dated. Aircon did not work and room was unbearably hot. We asked about aircon at reception and were told there is none and to use the fan in the wardrobe. The fan made no difference. We had the window open and it was unbearably hot and we did not sleep well due to the heat and from the noise outside. We were woken in the early hours by car horns from the road and the dustbin men around 6am being very noisy. We would avoid staying here again."

"This hotel was ok. No fridge or water/biscuits in the room. Breakfast was luke warm & the poached eggs I ordered, although very nice, took about 25 minutes to arrive. I had finished my main breakfast. Our previous trip to Leonardo’s in Chester was much nicer & better! "

"Great room on the 4th floor with view over Sheffield city centre. Very clean room. Perfect location. Rooftop bar on 3rd floor is excellent especially in the sun ! Staff very friendly. "

"The air con wasn’t working on our first three nights but the last night (also the warmest night) it thankfully was fixed. It was much needed in the evening when the sun moves round. The room was a good size and equipped with everything - kettle, good selection of hot drinks, hairdryer , iron and board, fridge and mini toiletries. The cleaning was done to a good standard. Our room overlooked the park, we saw the Lar Gibbons, Tapirs, Maned Wolves and Bush dogs at all times during the day. It was very special and a wonderful sight to wake up to. Breakfast was delicious, a good choice at the buffet - fruit cereals, toast, crumpets, cooked breakfast and cold and hot drinks. The staff were excellent, they were always polite and helpful, very friendly and welcoming! "
