Quaint train carriage warm and comfortable but the whole place is rather run down. There are no meals provided anymore and the grounds although would have once been lovely are very overgrown. As it is 20 mins drive to Pt Fairy be prepared to drive there for meals or use the kitchen. Some light fittings Had no globes and were full of dead insects and the carriage had a few cobwebs. Shame as the concept of carriages and cottages is a great idea. Very quiet though but would not have paid more for the experience.

Not nice

It was tired and run down. A lot of work required around the units. No sign of any managers to order breakfast. Our train , the bed nice, chairs nice. Bathroom needed to be cleaned of the spiders and cobwebs. The camp kitchen needed a good clean all over. A tea towel that was absolutely filthy was hung up after my wife had put it aside for washing. We ended up going into Portland and buying our own cooking utensils as we could not trust using the ones supplied. Recommend, no stay again, no.

Unique hotel about 25km out of Port Fairy. About 4 minute drive from Yambuk surf beach. Very comfortable stay in an old train carriage. Pet friendly. Accommodating hosts. Enjoyed the experience.

Definitely over priced and would not recommend.

Wasnt what we expected, we thought the train carriages would have been maintained better. Shower and kitchen water went on the ground underneath the train. A frog leapt out of the bathroom drain. We were disappointed and left early morning.

Perfectly located between Portland and Port Fairy. Gardens and animals on the property were fantastic, well kept and maintained. Hosts were very friendly. Unfortunately our toilet had a small leak, one light globe wasn't working and the pillows were a bit thin.

Nice country accommodation in Train carriage

Furnishings were very quaint. Something different to stay in a train carriage. A shame that the gardens haven't been kept neat. Could see at one stage the gardens would have been very beautiful. A real treat to see Alpacas.

Accomadation unique with railway carriages and cabins converted to suit Motel needs. With this in mind the usual facilry list is not complete or equal to a motel facility. It does have veryt Friendly owners and great breakfast on offer . Loved my stay .

A private cabin in peaceful surroundings

This was a last minute selection when a reservation elsewhere fell through in Christmas-New Year week. We didn't meet the owners, but instructions on the office door led us to our self-contained cabin (ex shearers quarters) with parking at the door. We had a living room with table, lounge and TV, and big windows overlooking a private garden and fish pond. The large bedroom had a very comfortable bed and an ensuite. Other accommodation was in recycled railway carriages which looked great. The site is only 15 minutes west of Port Fairy, so easily accessible, and without the crowds. It was very quiet overnight, and even though children were riding bikes around the car park, we slept in until after 8am. We would come again, thank you.

A pleasant surprise

After being unable to find accommodation in Port Fairy we found Codrington Gardens and it was a good experience. The host was very welcoming, the accommodation although old, was very clean and everything we needed was provided. The bonus of a peaceful setting with plenty of space, lovely aviary, peacocks and gardens to meander through was great. TO be able to obtain cooked breakfast was a bonus.

rural getaway

we needed a quiet break and we certainly got it, with the gardens to wander in and the friendly animals and birds that live on the property. it was very rural with a lovely country outlook.

Quaint!

Quaint! After a not so friendly greeting, the room was comfortable but tired looking, could do with a spruce up. The shower head needed replacing, the basin sink needs a new washer and the whole place needs a good dusting. Having said that, we would definitely stay there again if there was no other similarly priced accommodation in Port Fairy.

Quaint room but?

Needed a good dust and owners need to be more friendly. Lots of water wastage by having a dripping tap but not enough water coming out of the shower head, not enough to even get you wet!!! An ok place to stay if nothing else is available in Port Fairy region. Surprisingly quite considering it sits between a highway and windfarm.

Bad Timing

We arrived on a 45 degree day. The air conditioner would have been inadequate on a 35 degree day but would have helped if it had been turned on a few hours before our arrival given the circumstances. We had to bring the outside table and chairs in and put them in the small entry under the air conditioner to get any relief. As it grew darker we were swarmed by hundreds of insects. Still not sure how they got in. The train carriage is nicely done out but there is limited facilities and it is very out of the way.

Not a positive experience

Not recommended in high summer. Advertised as air conditioned. Small a/c unit in bedroom area eventually cooled that part but air flow did not circulate to the rest of the cabin where the dining table and sofa were. Anyone in those areas felt like they were roasting in an oven. Tried opening the windows at night to let cooler outside air in but this only let in a plague of flying and crawling beetles as the screens on the windows were inadequate. When paying for using two extra sheets the next morning we were made to feel ridiculous for asking for a receipt. The best thing about the place would be the llamas in the field.
