About the Area
Nestled just 4 miles inside the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park is the charming and historic town of Wawona. Located at the base of Chilnualna Falls (the second-highest vertical-drop waterfall in Yosemite) and home to the principal trailheads into the southern Yosemite wilderness, Wawona is also the closest town to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias. Wawona has the feel of a small town but is bustling with activity! Over 160 residents, including Yosemite Park employees, live in Wawona and can be seen gathering at the town's community center, playing a pickup game of basketball at the elementary school, jogging on one of the many picturesque trails, or simply walking their dogs and baby strollers through the winding residential streets. The historic Wawona Swinging Bridge boasts the best natural water slide in the Park! The history village is filled with docents, stagecoach rides, horseback rides, and barn dances in the summer season, and the Wawona Meadow Loop offers year-round riparian meadow wildlife viewing. Wawona was known to the local Native American Miwok in their language as Pallachun (a good place to stay). It is located entirely within Yosemite National Park (it preceded the founding of the park as a national recreation area), and is located on the South Fork of the wild and scenic Merced River, on the main highway (State Route 41) from Fresno to Yosemite Valley. Galen Clark, who helped gain preservation legislation for Mariposa Grove and what later became part of Yosemite National Park, occupied the Wawona area in 1855 and established a tourist rest and modest ranch, which he later sold and made into a hotel and resort property (the Wawona Hotel). The Wawona post office was established in 1878 and was originally called Clark's Station. The Redwoods in Yosemite has over 120 vacation rental homes and is proud to say that all of them are located in Wawona. All are within walking distance to everything that Wawona has to offer, and every one of them is surrounded by the majesty of Yosemite National Park!

Wonderful

Our family grew up coming to cabins at the Redwoods, then we owned a place for about 25 years, so when my now-scattered siblings want to share memories and reconnect, we rent a place like this with a comfortable deck for conversations and convenient access to Chilnualna Creek and the river for swims (even in October!). Didn't use TVs; found a plastic pitcher with cracked bottom; could've used a teapot and coffee filters, both otherwise, top marks!
We appreciate that the owner was upfront about the cabin being an older home. We stayed there because it had all the attributes we wanted. Knowing it was an older home, we could overlook the dated aspects. We will most definitely rent it again. We had a great time.
This was the perfect cabin and the perfect location for our family of 6. I wasn't expecting such a beautiful waterfall just a short walk from the house!
The cabin had plenty of space. It was nice to have a downstairs bedroom, bathroom, and living room for my wife and I while all the kids were upstairs.
The management group is awesome and super helpful. Being just inside Yosemite was a huge blessing because the line of cars to get into the park was long.
We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to friends and family.
the patio was our favorite hangout spot; enjoyed it very much. There was a mouse issue that should be addressed however. It was no big deal for us, we bought traps at the Pine Tree and caught a couple! Other guests may not be so chill about that though!
master bedroom heater was not working we got a portable heater swiftly though. Garbage disposal was not working , rest all were perfect ‘ Had a very wonderful time!
This cabin was great for our family. The upstairs got a bit hot in the evening due to temps in the high 80s and low 90s. There is a fan provided in the upstairs master closet, but I would suggest bringing a second one. The downstairs stayed nice and cool. The kitchen is very well stocked. I brought a few utensils I thought they might not have, but they had everything. The surrounding cabins were all full, but everyone seemed to observe the "quiet hours" so that it was quiet by 10p.m. The drive to the valley floor is about an hour, but it's beautiful and about as close as you can get without staying right on the valley floor. The gate to the spiral staircase does not have a latch or a lock, so if you have small children you might want to bring something to secure it, because the staircase is quite steep. We came up with a velcro strap that worked fairly well.

The property worked great for our family of 8. Having the downstairs was perfect for the kids play.
The kitchen was actually very well equipped with nice pots and pans and dishes and silverware and utensils. The beds were very comfortable. Our family would not hesitate to rent the cabin again. The only downsides were the drain in the bathroom upstairs did not drain very fast but we advised the rental company about it. The TV downstairs was a bit confusing on how to change from the DVD player to the regular TV but other than that, very comfortable. The wonderful towels for showers were great as well. The deck had plenty of chairs to sit on along with a picnic table, too. Overall....great place.

Wonderful Experience
This cabin was perfect for my family. Besides me I had 5 adult children staying to attend a relative's wedding. The decor was rustic, and the beds comfortable. The heaters worked well. We enjoyed sitting outside on the big deck. Hiking trails were quite near, and we also enjoyed the History center in Wawona. Everyone in our group expressed a strong desire to return.
