About the Area
Nestled just 4 miles inside the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park is the charming and historic town of Wawona. Located at the base of Chilnualna Falls (the second-highest vertical drop waterfall in Yosemite) and home to the principal trailheads into the southern Yosemite wilderness, Wawona is also the closest town to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias. Wawona has the feel of a small town but is bustling with activity! Over 160 residents, including Yosemite Park employees, live in Wawona and can be seen gathering at the town's community center, playing a pickup game of basketball at the elementary school, jogging on one of the many picturesque trails, or simply walking their dogs and baby strollers through the winding residential streets. The historic Wawona Swinging Bridge boasts the best natural water slide in the Park! The history village is filled with docents, stagecoach rides, horseback rides, and barn dances in the summer season, and the Wawona Meadow Loop offers year-round riparian meadow wildlife viewing. Wawona was known to the local Native American Miwok in their language as Pallachun (a good place to stay). It is located entirely within Yosemite National Park (it preceded the founding of the park as a national recreation area) and is located on the South Fork of the wild and scenic Merced River, on the main highway (State Route 41) from Fresno to Yosemite Valley. Galen Clark, who helped gain preservation legislation for Mariposa Grove and what later became part of Yosemite National Park, occupied the Wawona area in 1855 and established a tourist rest and modest ranch, which he later sold and made into a hotel and resort property (the Wawona Hotel). The Wawona post office was established in 1878 and was originally called Clark's Station. The Redwoods in Yosemite has over 120 vacation rental homes and is proud to say that all of them are located in Wawona. All are within walking distance to everything that Wawona has to offer and every one of them is surrounded by the majesty of Yosemite National Park!

Nice cabin, everything was clean, tons of cooking supplies.
This was a great location, already in the park. Took a little less than an hour to get to Glacier Point and a little more time to get to the Valley. Cabin was very spacious, plenty of utensils and everything needed to cook and serve for a large party. Place was very clean and had all the conveniences of home, happy to have ceiling fans too. Only issue was upstairs bedrooms were very dark, a little creepy. Kids wouldn't sleep up there so they camped in the living room. If I had known that ahead of time would have booked a smaller cabin. I would suggest brightening up the place a bit at least with the bedding, would make a big difference.

Holiday Happiness
Perfectly suited to a family of 5 for the holidays, everything was clean and ready and the office staff were very helpful. We were well supplied with firewood, linens, and everything a cook could need or want for pots/pans and appliances. Cooking was a dream. There was a great TV, an entertainment system with Netflix, Hulu, Amazon and other such supplied. WiFi and a landline were available at no charge. We did not get AT&T cell although some other carriers worked. I was in a wheelchair due to a broken ankle the cabin is not ADA compliant but managed most areas with no problem. The family enjoyed going to the valley floor, hiking Bridal veil, Mirror Lake and Christmas Brunch at The Ahwahnee….. and our first snowfall in many years. We had such a great time we are talking about doing this again.

Wawona is awesome, the cabin .. not so much.
First of all, we are in LOVE with the Wawona area and all of the amenities around, especially the Merced river and many hidden Jem waterfalls. This is the reason for the 3 stars since we really spent most of our time outside, but cabin time was not that awesome. The inside of the cabin was extremely hot when we first entered. Temperature gauge said 95 but felt even hotter! Even after opening all windows and waiting until night to hit, the lowest it got down to was 85. The upstairs rooms were extremely dark at night due to poor lighting and it didnt cool down at all - so our kids (2 boys) and mom had to sleep in the pullout couch in the living room for all 3 nights. Even with the fans cranking at full speed, the house really didnt cool down enough to get a good nights sleep. The cabin had a funky smell to it whihc obviously was exemplified by the heat. TV / DVD remotes missing + 1 large towel per each shower.. Sound knit picky, but just expect a little more for how expensive it was per night. Will be back, but not in this cabin ...

Excellent Stay
Everything was excellent, roomy, and clean. A great fireplace and plenty of wood, full amenities in kitchen. Lots of toys, books and games for the kids and adults. Very nice deck with a Gas BBQ, and a short walk to the river. It was beautiful and we all enjoyed it.
